  1. So...is this list explicitly limited to men? I haven't read PWI since I was in high school, so I can't remember. If so, that's fine, but if not it's bizarre that Sasha Banks and at least the rest of the 4 Horsewomen of NXT aren't listed over all of these random indy dudes at the bottom. Other than that, I pretty much agree with the sentiment that a top 500 list is insane and impossible to quantify in any meaningful way. I think even a top 100 would devolve by the end of it. There are some entertaining names here, though.
  2. I do think Charlotte has something special too (my original post just got...a little long), but I'm worried they aren't going to find a suitable opponent for her. Sasha and Becky have both proven to be good opponents in the past, but I wonder if they don't want to go that route because of the NXT history. A weird part of me kind of thinks Charlotte could drag some decent out of Tamina, in kind of a Ric Flair vs Vader way (doubtful it would actually be on that level, but that style of match). Honestly, though, maybe someone to bounce her charisma off of would be better, in which case you'd probably go with Nikki. I actually feel like booking Tamina is one of the harder tasks in the division, because there's no one who can match her size or power moves. They might need to bring in someone new to give her a decent run if they ever decide's that a route they want to take - someone like Alpha Female or another power/brawling-based wrestler.
  3. I definitely agree with earlier sentiments from this thread. I'm sure the defense of "Divas" from WWE's standpoint is that it's a corollary to "Superstars" for the men, but here's a crazy idea: if you want to legitimize your women's division, maybe just also call them "Superstars", since it's already gender neutral! I just really don't think it would be that confusing or difficult. It's a little thing, but it matters; it drives my wife up the damn wall every time they say "Diva", because in her words "No one who has ever called me or one of my friends a diva meant it as a good thing." There needs to be more than one women's match on major cards and most of the longer from TV programming (certainly Raw), and they need to be singles matches. It's getting frustrating watching match after match of 3 v 3 v 3 nonsense when most of the women in those matches could do solid work if they weren't relegated to 2 minutes of an 18 minute match. I think Sasha should be the cornerstone of the division, ala Flair as was mentioned earlier. She's easily the best worker of the bunch, and in my opinion I think she's great at elevating the people she works with to her level. Part of me is bummed that she'd have to take the belt from Nikki at this point, because conventional booking logic would dictate after having such a long run with a heel as champ there should be a face run, but Sasha's character wouldn't work for at least a year or more as a face (I'm picturing a Stone Cold thing, where the character is more or less unchanged but the fans root for the "heelish" behavior - I know that's kind of a limited and specific example that I'm not even sure would work). Since we're in crazy fantasy booking land, part of me feels like you could transition the Bellas to be faces - I feel like audiences might not go for it, but the old "veterans trying to hold their own against the young guns" storyline can be used for faces, I'd argue. I guess at the end of the day, my crazy ideas is just book them like you book the men. I mean, WWE's booking doesn't work for me gigantic chunks of the time, but at least they give the men some semblance of identifiable character - everything I know about the women on the main roster is what I picked up while some of them were in NXT, with the rest being more or less enigmas. What are Tamina's goals? Why did Alicia team up with the Bellas, especially given how much more likely the two of them are to turn on her than each other? How do Naomi's light-up shoes tie in to anything? I'm not saying these are the most compelling ideas or questions (and yes, the last one is a joke), but I feel like these are things we would know about male wrestlers in similar storylines.
  4. Really hit me like a kick in the gut. I'm a little on the young side to have really experienced Dusty in his prime as it happened, but going back and watching some of those matches and promos has always left me in awe. RIP.
  5. Being from MN, this has hit me a bit harder than I expected. I grew up watching wrestling with my dad, who also grew up watching wrestling with his parents. They had stopped airing re-runs of it on local TV and Dad didn't have any of it on tape, but I heard so many stories about all the AWA guys, and none of that would have been possible without Verne. It's kind of funny, I was talking to my grandma back at Easter about wrestling (in the context of her complaining about its current state), and she specifically brought up Verne as the exemplar of what she wished modern wrestling would incorporate more of. He'll certainly be missed.
  6. More rap songs should feature samples of pro wrestlers. I stand by that. https://youtu.be/GAN_O9xRkf4
  7. This video doesn't really need its own topic, so I kept the title vague, but I didn't see another place it really fit. Anyway, this video made me laugh, so I thought I'd share. (Sorry if there's a way to embed the video better, still learning this forum's technical stuff.) https://youtu.be/1kE0foolmEw Share any other non-wrestling but still wrestling-related (if that makes any sense) here!
  8. "You know the sound a dishwasher makes when it's about to kick off? That's the sound they just made." -Bobby Heenan during the Sting v Rude match on Spring Stampede '94. It's a weird thing to say, but he wasn't wrong. Heenan was ridiculous in the best possible way.
  9. Given that this is a couple of weeks old I'm not sure if you're still having issues, but I got a super quick response from their support account on Twitter (@AskWWENetwork) by making a series of post complaining about the Network not working on 2 different devices and tagging the main Network account (@WWENetwork) in them. They seem to be motivated pretty quickly by potential negative publicity.
  10. EDIT: Nevermind, my question has been answered. Thanks!
  11. I haven't gotten to anything with New Jack yet, but my understanding from what others have told me is that they have since added them back, with the music obviously removed. Consensus seems to be that I should find the originals, so I'll get looking for those. Thanks for the input!
  12. (This is my first non-introductory post, so if this is in the wrong place, please let me know - still trying to figure out the structure of the board.) I never watched ECW when it was originally on, due to a combination of being too young for the product during some of its run and due to living in MN pre-Internet file sharing (or me knowing about tape trading, I guess), making it harder to obtain. I've been trying to catch up on it via the WWE Network, and I'm enjoying a fair amount of the product, but the royalty-free music is really throwing me off at times. Is it worth my while to try and track down the original versions with the licensed music, or am I overestimating its importance?
  13. Hello, I'm Matt. I'll be turning 30 in a couple of months, and I currently live in Wisconsin, although I'm originally from Minnesota. To be totally honest, almost all of my wrestling exposure is mainstream '90s stuff that I watched with my dad, although we also occasionally watched old AWA stuff when we could find it on local TV. I was sent this way via the Old School Wrestling Podcast, which I'm a big fan of. I have 3 kids and a wife who isn't a fan of wrestling, so the amount of time I actually get to watch anything is pretty short, but I'm looking forward to finding some good recommendations for matches and promotions I've missed, as well as participating in discussions when I can.
