  1. Thanks to a random YouTube crackdown, the show takes an extreme turn with a look at ECW Hardcore TV from September 26, 1995! - ECW as the rest area of professional wrestling - A glimpse of the future Big Poppa Pump as Taz reaches a low point - Weapons, tables, and run-ins: the quintessential ECW match featuring the Pitbulls, Raven, and Stevie Richards - Steve Austin rolls in with a parody of everyone’s favorite balding blond wrestler - Rey Mysterio Jr. and Psicosis light up South Philly - 2 Cold Scorpio just lights up, period - Woman keeps repeating herself - JT Smith works an old comedy trope Plus: - A confession about a popular movie franchise - Why a big 1987 sports moment wouldn’t have happened in 2018 - Explaining Stevie Richards’ white cutoff jeans - How the theme to the Hardcore TV show became popular a couple of years earlier - Background of the term “shah” [email protected] Twitter.com/GFAllentownPod Facebook.com/greetingsfromallentown www.prowrestlingonly.com
  2. Episode 78 of Greetings From Allentown out now on AWA All Star Wrestling from February 18 1989! The bizarre events leading to the AWA title being decided in a battle royal, a roll call of that roster, Jerry Lawler fires back at Verne, a new "According to Larry", Lee Marshall loves him some Bill Apter, Greg Gagne brings up Rick Martel in front of Tom Zenk, and much more.... https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/gfa-78-awa-all-star-wrestling-02-18-1989
  3. Since so much of it has been dropped on the WWE Network lately, decided to do a show on Mid Atlantic Wrestling from November 1981, with the exact date being up in the air. (Even WWE Network has two different dates) Sandy Scott awkwardly offers up a Cadillac as some sort of undetermined prize, defending Bob Caudle, Piper feuding with Steamboat, Sgt. Slaughter as an all time great, trying to figure out what Jimmy Valiant is, and more. https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/greetings-from-allentown-72-mid-atlantic-wrestling-november-1981
  4. Woof, this one was a slog. Now I read somewhere that they used Flair vs Vader from Starrcade 93 as a template because of it being Shane's hometown. However that really didn't work until the very end as I dont think the crowd was into it until the finish because it was a very slow, methodical match for ECW. Mitigating circumstance: Douglas got hurt at some point. Even still, this should have been 10 minutes shorter but the times on some of these early ECW were very screwy.
  5. https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/gfa-68-wwf-superstars-10-22-1988 This week we go back three decades for a look at the WWF Superstars of Wrestling from October 22, 1988! - An examination of the attack on Hulk Hogan by the Big Bossman on the Brother Love Show - The WWF in the fall of 1988: out with the old and in with the new - Reasons why Haku was a logical choice for “King” - What kind of wrestler would you want to be: one known for matches or one who is known for everything but the matches? - The simple argument for why the Brain Busters WERE a good fit in the WWF - Comparing two Akeems head to head for 1988-89 - Tito Santana runs into a string of bad luck - Explaining the difference between the Warlord and the Barbarian - A revelation by Bad News Brown Plus: - Running around downtown Nashville like Henry Hill at the end of Goodfellas - A true tale of hustling drunk guys for money on the golf course at age 7 that ends with a life lesson - Dan Quayle walks into a trap - Singing the Hulkamania Prison Blues - Famous men named Pork Chop - Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura banter galore!
  6. Decided to do another WCW Prime show, because why the hell not? - Defending Alex Wright, whose demise was quintessential WCW - Going gimmick shopping for John Tenta in 1996 - The beauty of a Barrio Brothers vs Men at Work match - The Alliance to End Hulkamania: did they actually win the long game? And a lot more....the video had the commercials included. https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/gfa-66-wcw-prime-03-11-1996
  7. Instead of taking a week off like I planned, I put together a special compilation show "Best of the Heel Turns, Volume 1" These are all from early episodes before the podcast appeared on the PWO feed. 1st segment: Andre turns on Hogan at Pipers Pit 2nd segment: Rockers in the Barber Shop 3rd segment: Bruno & Larry in 1980 I finished the wraparounds up prior to learning of Bruno's passing. https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/gfa-special-best-of-the-heel-turns-vol-1
  8. Please tell me you will keep up the snarkiness once the Freebirds show up. Episode 31 was the snarkiest on record and I want more of it!
  9. New show building to WrestleMania 6, WWF Superstars from March 10, 1990 Advisory: If you like tirades against the Ultimate Warrior, you'll dig this one. Why Warrior would protect Hogan, Bad News Brown does an accent, Earthquake is down with the brown (gear), Greg Valentine is back in black (hair), Big Bossman rolls out new music, pinpointing Akeem's decline, Robert Goulet in popular culture, meditations on the Brady Bunch and more! https://m.soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/gfa59-wwf-superstars-03-10-1990
  10. My Wednesday routine that I like is to watch the WCCW show being covered that week. Most of the time I will read the World Cast show description first, but i didnt this week. 1. I laughed my ass off when I saw Pro Wrestling Illustrated subscriber Jay Saldi at the top. 2. I laughed more when Brian Adidas was announced for the opening match. All that was missing for the triple play was a David Manning 7 minute promo at ringside....too bad he's suspended.
  11. I have to defend the DiBiase theme on these grounds: the "vibe" of the song with "money money money" is a direct lift of "Louie, Louie"....they kind of sound alike. Also Hogan had "Hulk Hogan's Theme" for a hot second between Eye of the Tiger and Real American....and I liked that one quite a bit and so did the guy who composed it since it got reused in "Ravishing" by Bonnie Tyler. Still love Hogan in WCW with "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and playing the belt like a guitar. Really enjoyed this show.
  12. Every wrestling podcast has a "run", and this one seemed to go longer than I anticipated after the run of "Tony can't remember anything" shows. Ending up at 60 or so isn't so bad. With that said, I listened to the Halloween Havoc 95 show the other day while on a run and I laughed so damn hard at Tony working blue that I had to stop because I couldn't breathe so well. At the end of the day, it was at least nice to hear from Tony again after his long self-imposed exile from wrestling.
  13. This week was totally an example of me thinking the show was crappy and then listening thru and realizing "hey...this isn't so bad for a review of a wrestling show watched on a turboprop airplane!" What I enjoyed the most: - my "apology" to Meltzer - finding out about the "WCW Executive committee" guy but unfortunately finding out he's dead (didn't enjoy the last part) - figuring out a proper wrestling Village People lineup. Strongbow has to be the Native American because the Village People version probably wasn't a real Native American either - Watching Regal walk to the ring: seriously, he's the best of all time at that https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/greetings-from-allentown-55-wcw-saturday-night-05-25-1996
  14. Is Scott going to do a pop culture corner for Monday, Thursday and Saturday of that one week? One of my favorite movies of all time came out that week.... Probably never going to have a situation again with three shows this close together.
  15. Pete is Blanche kind of by default because you have to be wise-cracking Sophia. What would be even better IMO is a reboot of the show Maude with Parv in the starring role.
