I wanted to just do the streak, but ended up doing his whole career.

WINS - 308

LOSSES - 27

NC/DRAW - 18

Most of the losses were 3-Way, 4-Way matches, Battle Royals or some other type of multi-man match. If anyone is interested in the raw data, I'll be happy to send you the excel file.

THE STREAK

SOURCE: THEHISTORYOFWWE.COM and DDTDIGEST.COM

20 Wins - The Giant (*21 counting handicap against him and Hogan)

10 Wins - Jerry Flynn, Perry Saturn

7 Wins - Curt Hennig

6 Wins - Brad Armstrong

5 Wins - Scott Hall, Yuji Nagata

4 Wins - Fit Finlay, Glacier, Meng, Steve McMichael

3 Wins - Bobby Eaton, Hugh Morrus (*4 counting handicap match against him and Barbarian), Raven, Rick Fuller, Sting, Van Hammer

2 Wins - Barry Darsow, Barry Horowitz, Buddy Lee Parker, Konnan, Renegade, Scott Norton, Sick Boy

1 Win - Al Greene, Bam Bam Bigelow, Barbarian (*2 counting handicap against him and Hugh Morrus), Brian Adams, Buddy Landel, Chavo Guerrero Jr., Chris Kanyon, DDP, Disco Inferno, Hulk Hogan (*2 counting handicap against him and Giant), Jim Powers, John Betcha, John Nord, Johnny Attitude, Kendall Windham, La Parka, Len Denton, Lodi, Manny Fernandez, Mark Starr, Mike Enos, Mortis, Ray Traylor, Reese, Roadblock, Rocco Rock, Scott Putski, Scotty Riggs, Steve Regal, Stevie Ray, Terrance Black, Vincent, Wayne Bloom, Wrath, 9-Person Battle Royal

No Contests - Disco Inferno, Chavo Guerrero Jr., Bam Bam Bigelow, and Kevin Nash/Bam Bam Bigelow in a handicap match.

Losses - Kevin Nash

From 6/23/97 to 12/27/98 - That gives me 148 Wins, 1 Loss, and 4 No-Contests. It is possible I missed quite a few house show matches, but I'm thinking the list started getting padded middle of the way through.

After his win over Perry Saturn at Spring Stampede 1998 (4/19), He is announced at 74-0 and the next night on Nitro when he wins the US Title over Raven it's 75-0. At this point I have 68 wins and 2 No Contests. It's highly plausible I'm missing seven House Show/Dark Matches and the record is legit.

After the 5/18/1998 Nitro win over Glacier, he is announced at 88-0.(+13) I have this as win 82(+14).

His Great American Bash PPV win over Konnan 6/14/1998 is announced as his 100th win.(+12) I have this as win 95(+13).

So far I've went from a difference of 7 (75/68), to a difference of 6 (88/82), and now 5 (100/95).

His Bash at the Beach PPV win over Curt Hennig 7/12/1998 is announced as win 112(+12). I have 105(+10). The difference is now back up to 7 (112/105).

On Nitro Xtra in early November 1998 a win against Meng is counted as 160(+48), but counting the results I have even the announced number would only be 150. My result count is 143(+38). Difference 17(160/143).

The night of Starrcade he is said to be at 174-0(+14), but results I have show announced number should be 165(+5) now with 4 total No-Contests. As of the night of his loss to Nash, results I found show a record of 148(+5).

So it looks like the streak was legit (+/- 5) until he won the title from Hogan. At that point it started to get a bit inflated, adding upwards of 25 phantom wins.

I have a lot of love for Goldberg. One of my biggest pet peeves is when some goof says he was the "Ultimate Warrior" of the modern era, that is to say he had an amazing look, but couldn't go. Frankly I couldn't disagree more. Goldberg vs DDP at HH98 is one of my favourite ever matches, as is Goldberg vs Scott Steiner at Fall Brawl 2000. The latter may even crack my top 10. His ladder match with Scott Hall was brilliant too. He had heated scraps with Nash, Bret, Hogan... the fact is Goldberg could go, he had serious chops, and with the right person he could create magic.

I'm just at the beginning of Goldberg's run in my WCW ppv watching now (mid-way through '98), and so far what strikes me is what a poor job they did of protecting him on the big shows, in terms of choice of opponent. Throwing him out there against McMichael and Perry Saturn really didn't serve him too well this early in his career. Of course, it didn't matter in the grand scheme of things. I just thought it was odd.

He wasn't booked as a big star in early 98 though which was kind of the beauty. He was boiling under the surface and that's why people got behind him. When he knocked off Raven (another amazing match) and slowly started climbing the cards, by the time he was nosing up with Hogan, the huge establish star, people had completely suspended their disbelief and wanted this unstoppable rookie to be the one to knock the mighty Hollywood Hogan off his perch. It was like seeing a young Mike Tyson destroy Michael Spinks...

I dunno. Certainly with the Mongo feud when he was still a heel that could be said to be true (though they still put him over huge on commentary), but by the time he's wrestling Saturn (on two separate ppvs) it's clear they realise what they have with him. Of course, we all know that at this point ppvs weren't as special as they could and should have been in WCW, but I was still suprised with how Goldberg was used on them. Saturn wasn't the guy to be having semi-competitive squashes with him, in my opinion, and really the fans just wanted to see him mow through guys anyway.

Another thing that stood out though, was just how meteoric his rise was. He kinda knocks around doing not much for a couple of months, but then suddenly the rocket boosters were strapped on. What would be comparable pushes for a guy going from literally nothing to being one of the top two or three guys in the industry?

Considering how few long, competitive matches Goldberg had, that he was as good as he was is extremely impressive. I don't think he developed into a great worker, but the potential was absolutely there if he had someone working with him. He needed a Bill Watts type helping him put together the pieces in the ring and watching out for him politically.

Just watched Summerslam 2003 on the Network. Watching Goldberg in WCW booking mode is such a delight. He powers through everybody in an explosive, impressive manner and gets over huge with the live audience in the process. I don't recall a time he was ever this over in the WWE.

Of course there are arguments about this type of booking not being sustainable in the long run; but it didn't need to be the case all of the time. Re reading my above posts: Goldberg was more than capable of having exciting 10 - 15 minute matches. It seems things dragged when he went over this time (i.e. his title matches with Hunter) the excitement was taken out.

Was it? I've heard this as a talking point before and not agreed. Sure he won squash matches super fast even for JCP standards. But the moment he got into feuds with the top guys he stopped winning clean and went into the trade W's and L's and tons of DQ's of all the other top guys. He lost the best of 7 series to Nikita. It seems like they let him get to almost Dusty levels and then stopped him cold. A true Goldberg push would have ended with him beating Flair for the title the first time they met in 85.

He steamrolled to the U.S. Title in a really short period of time. His matches were super short and and in tags/multi-mans he almost always scored the pinfall. On tv they hyped up how he was ending matches so quickly. They did slow down his push as time went on but there was a good 6-7 month period where it follows a similar structure to Goldberg.

A while back, I watched all the Goldberg matches that are generally considered his best (vs. DDP at Havoc, vs. Rock at Backlash, vs. Jericho at Bad Blood), and they all tell the same basic story: Goldberg dominates in the opening minutes, misses a spear and rams his shoulder into the post, gets his arm worked over, hits a spear but can't capitalize because of his injury, ends up winning with the Jackhammer. The Steiner match is an exception.

Watched Golberg vs Christian in a cage from Raw in 2003. This is EXACTLY what Goldberg vs Jericho should have been in 1998. Christian is such a slaezy douche in this match, you can't wait for Goldberg to crush him. This is probably more of a Christian match than a Goldberg match, but I think it's worth mentioning.

Booking Goldberg against Rock in his first match was really dumb. Say all you want about his WWE run, but he really did get strong reactions against "real" heels. He should have toppled HHH right off the bat, but, you know...

I've said numerous times but I would have done Goldberg vs. the newly unmasked Kane. Do it in December, have Goldberg run through Batista and HHH and keep Kane far away from Shane McMahon and feed him some over mid-carders. The match would have sucked but I bet they would have popped a good buyrate. It reminds me of how WCW fucked up Goldberg/Wrath.

Does ECW Taz count? Obviously Goldberg had it on a far grander scale, but Taz's aura at the smaller level was very comparable. I think where Goldberg benefited over Lesnar and Vader is that while Goldberg was a big dude, he looked more like "big dude you see at the gym" and less Viking Space Lord like Lesnar or fat tough guy like Vader.
