Hogan praises Liz for her acting ability in making Savage cry. She goes to slap him and he blocks it. Pretty awesome. They built this match well, and Liz was really good in this angle.

The Nasty Boys come out with their contracts and mention as politely as possible that they aren't getting the money they were promised in their contracts. Hogan says he hasn't signed any contract for them, and that they don't wear NWO colors unless he approves it. The NWO then beats them up, takes off their NWO gear and spraypaints them.

Once again, the NWO takes over the booth. Hall loves pointing out that Harlem Heat is really from Texas.

Didn't it led to a Outsiders vs Nasty Boys vs Faces of Fear match where Saggs got injured and had to retire ? If the injury never had happened, I do think the Nasties would have had more stuff to do with the whole angle. I'm kinda glad they didn't though (although I'm not saying Saggs getting injured was a good thing).

Why was Liz staying with Hogan and the nWo anyway ? I never quite got the whole thing, in one way or another (she spent the previous months fucking with Savage anyway). Then when Savage came back, Hogan "gave" her away to Savage again, and everything is fine and everyone gets together. Nothing made much sense there.

The angle (which I admit was confusing, and only understood after watching this yearbook) is that Liz signed a contract with Hogan to do movies. Then she regretted it when she saw how they were treating Savage. And now, she keeps trying to reach out to him to tell him how she feels, and then Hogan plays up that she's only doing it to get inside his head. So Savage can't figure out if Liz is genuinely into him, or if she's just doing Hogan's bidding, and as viewers, we are supposed to be asking ourselves the same thing. It's a good angle, but too subtle. It could have been more overt.

I'm curious how they would have had Flair react to Liz just disappearing from his side like that had he not been injured.

I never got all of that. WCW was too subtle for me I guess.

That said, there was no reason for Liz to be concerned about Savage after spending the year with Flair and fucking with his money. Oh well. Liz looked great at the time so more TV time for her was good.

I think it was too subtle for most of the audience, as she seemed to still get a fair amount of heel heat. Although that may have been because like 2 mths earlier she was still throwing Savage's money into the audience during Flair's entrance. THAT, to me, is the headscratcher...Flair beat up his dad and just generally humilated him for about 9 mths but after only a few weeks of Hogan screwing around with him...NOW she suddenly has sympathy? Wrestling logic, for sure.

Well, watching it back in context, yeah, it was rather well explained. Add the fact Hogan played with Savage's head saying Liz was actually acting (which would imply she was still fucking with Savage just like she did when she was with Flair) and you get quite the intricate angle. Liz was really good again, going for a slap on Hogan as soon as he says she's acting. The Nasties beatdown appeared like such a sleazeball move since they were genuine Hogan friend, it made it clear the nWo guys were real thugs with no honor. Hall outing the Heat as being from Texas was funny. Nitro had a terrific run of angles every week at this point.

Yeah, the Liz stuff makes more sense now, but I don't think Bischoff or Schiavone were ever able to spell out what was happening for the viewers--probably because of that trademark lack of quality control. For once, we needed Vince around to drive the storyline into our heads. The Nasty Boys make the mistake of wearing NWO colors before their contracts are finalized, which leads to them getting punked out and pretty much ended as a relevant force in wrestling. Hogan is SUCH a despicable creep here, playing on his past with Savage and basically promising to bone Liz.

Agree that the Liz thing wasn't really conveyed to the viewer well as the dots were connected after reading this thread. As a stand alone promo again building to Havoc but also with Hulk and the NWO being an ass, this was again effective. It got some sympathy on the Nasty Boys. My dad was watching this segment and turned to me halfway through noting that this was the peak of WCW. I can't really disagree with him based on what I saw here as the NWO still feels fresh.

The turn on Beefcake at Road Wild didn't quite get over as the real, despicable scumbag move by Hogan that it should have, since the crowd there didn't understand Hogan's relationship with Beefcake, but here Hogan attacking the Nastys does get that across. Really awesome angle. I also wasn't really following the logic of the story with Liz until I read Loss' post.

Yep, I really love this storyline.  They built this really well, and as noted the NWO does feel really fresh.  Hogan is super heel here beating up his old friends again and making Liz watch as he does that and trashes Savage.  Great angle here.  I can remember that it was between Sting and Fall Brawl and Savage vs. Hogan and on through Piper (down the line) that I started hearing the buzz at school about WCW and the interest amongst folks that didn't normally talk about wrestling was picking up (in my school anyway).
