Really good, all-action sprint that goes about 10 minutes. Austin and Pillman get the win in a non-title match when Pillman pins Douglas. More heated than any WCW match on the set so far.

I love this:

Jesse: "Shane Douglas is just angry. He's angry at Brian Pillman, and he's angry that he's a conservative and we've got a liberal President!"

The finish looked like it might've been a little botched to me, but it was still cool as shit because it's as if Pillman just torpedoes himself at Douglas' head with the intention of connecting with *some* part of his body.

Douglas also takes a head-first shot into the turnbuckle at one point, and it either legit rung his bell or it's the best sell job of a turnbuckle shot I think I've seen.

Not as good as their Clash match, but still a really fun, action-packed match. Like KB8, I loved the turnbuckle Douglas took, I'm pretty sure it was just a really good sell job, but even if it legit rung his bell it still added to the match. Loved how the Blondes got the heat on Steamboat, and thought the finish looked fine. Shane was clearly too close to the ropes for the springboard, so Pillman essentially does a body tackle to the back of his head that was solid enough that I can buy it as ending a match. Really fun stuff, the more I see of these four during this era the more I love their work.

The Blonds theme is here! The one that got reused for about 9 million other guys, but I still think of it as the Blonds theme. Basic but good production here as we get footage of the champs getting laid out at the Clash. Fun sprint with a cool finish, as Douglas does a rolling reverse cradle on Austin, but Pillman creams him with Air Pillman from behind. What a great month of television for WCW. Yes, it's officially a pity that Watts was mere weeks away from being forced out.

Hot start with Austin & Steamboat, then Pillman in to sell well, and you can see he's really developing into a prototypical tag team heel. Steamer then plays FIP for a while with a nicely teased comebacks while the Blonds (although still not officially in that gimmick yet) maintain control and heel it up behind ref's back. Pillman jumps in causing ref to miss and disallow a hot tag for great heat. Douglas finally gets in and is on fire before Pillman takes him out. Really great match with everyone looking better coming out of this. I think I preferred this to the Clash.

***3/4

Fun action in what is really becoming an unheralded feud in time. This was great with the Blondes starting to feel like the Blondes with Austin doing his camera roll and them working really cohesive. Even with the limited time, this still told a good story and was a great way to progress the feud with the heels picking up a win. ***1/4

I really liked this. I've been so pleasantly surprised how good Shane Douglas is in this run. He really did seem to have a ton of potential at this point in his career before injuries, egos and politics but his bakes on. He showed a lot of emotion standing on the apron, cheering steamboat on, tons of fire in his hot tag and sold brilliantly. The finish was really well done too.

I actually watched this before the Clash match, and it's going to be hard for that match to top it. The storytelling was brilliant here: the champs are so mad that they were attacked after the Clash match that they're challenging the challengers, and they're out of sorts all match long, letting their emotions get the best of them too often. Jesse ended up being right: Shane and Steamer were wrong for making their issue with the Blonds so personal.

Austin and Pillman really impressed me as a team here, and Brian's really learned in a hurry how to be effective as a heel, which he had trouble with at first. I thought the finish was perfectly timed, and it would have never been able to work if Steamer hadn't been whining to Randy Anderson about both Blonds being in the ring at the same time. Great work from all involved.

I liked Jesse's crack about Shane being upset that Clinton was in the White House, but you can tell that whatever influence Watts may have had on him as far as staying in "main event serious" mode goes is waning. Maybe it's JR who's the good influence, because when Tony questions him about his attitude toward making wrestling about personal vendettas, he unleashes his patented "What do you know about being an athlete?" bit that he used on Vince for years. For his part, Tony just calls the match louder and prays that Jesse will shut the hell up. The sad thing is, this is going to be the number one announce team in the company once JR leaves in a month or so. Tony and Jesse were fun when Vince put them together for a couple of pay-per-views, but Tony's slipped badly since Royal Rumble '90, and I shudder to think what tangents Jesse will go off on if he's left unchecked.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Clash match; if these two teams were this good with just ten minutes, imagine what they can do with twice as much time!

Ricky Steamboat & Shane Douglas vs Hollywood Blonds - WCW Worldwide 1/30/93

There is such a purity to these matches. Great textbook babyface/heel dynamics. The babyfaces want revenge for post match Clash beat down but this is non title, which I like we should NOT reward the Blondes for such antics. The shine was fine really liked how Douglas took that turnbuckle bump. Loved Austins blind knee as transition and just really perfect heel wrestling and there is the TERRIBLE TOWEL! When Douglas gets the hot tag I love how Austin & Pillmam react and bump for him especially Austin is discombobulated. Like I said a purity to the performance. Belly to Belly! This time Douglas knows to look for Austin coming from the top. Learned psychology! Douglas has Austin rolled up but an Air Pillmam to back of the head gives the Blonds a win and a title shot down the road. I really like Austin & Pillmans take on what it means to be a heel. ***

Wow, Shane Douglas is so good here. From the best turnbuckle sell ever to the hot tag, he is on fire. I know there's many more matches to come between these 4 before Douglas leaves in the spring, but it's a real shame he didn't stay with WCW and progress with Austin and Pillman.

He's likely another casualty of Watts' run being cut short.
