I loved that Burt Reynolds seemed genuinely moved, when he went in to hug Bret at the end. No idea why that pops out at me, but it's usually one of the first things I think of when it comes to this match.

As cool as that was. What sticks in my mind is Randy Savage coming out too hug Bret.

In an alternate universe Bret Hart vs Randy Savage was the greatest match in Wrestlemania history.

Well, with Savage you'd expect it. Not the guest ring announcer.

My guess is that Reynolds was genuinely moved by alcohol.

I so, so love this post-match celebration. Completely set the right tone for making Bret seem like the man. I think Vince himself joining them was a key moment, too. What other time has he gone into the ring and congratulated the new champion?

And of course, Owen coming up from the curtain with that look of disdain. Great stuff.

Montreal? Joking aside, I could even tell at the time as a ten year old mark this was meant to be Bret's big coming-out as the new face of the company. Why they didn't commit to him in the long haul is beyond me, because for all his faults he was as close to perfect a guy they needed at the time to counter the public's image of roided-out monsters.

The right guy walked out with the title on this WrestleMania. Wasn't the best match was the happy ending for the show. Reynolds even claps along with a cast on his right hand. The look on Owen's face is incredible. He is so envious. And we get to see more of this feud over the rest of the year.

Post match celebration is one of my favorites moments in wrestling and really cemented Hart as my favorite wrestler as a kid. The ending of the actual match pisses me off more every time I see it and makes Yoko looks stupid more than Hart look good or resourceful. They could have had him slip and then Hart do a Hart attack clothesline or something, just the way he rolls him up with Yoko's shoulders not necessiarly on the mat always looked so poor and would be a big grip I think if the celebration was not so rewarding.

WWF World Heavyweight Champion Yokozuna vs Bret Hart - WWF WrestleMania X

Eevryone talks about the post-match celebration but I thought this was a damn solid match. I watched this in between a Sepultura and Testament set a couple weeks back and I was meaning to write a review, but I was kinda burnt out on writing. I really thought up until the finish this was damn good pro wrestling. Yokozuna was a great athletic, monster heel. He was constantly cheating. I don't think there was an underhanded tactic he didn't try. He also had some great big man offense. Bret as selling from the match against Owen and was tremendous in this match as a sympathetic babyface. The selling and the hope spots were great. The dropkick was nice. I LOVED, LOVED the headbutt and they both sell it. Hell, Yoko was really great at selling throughout the match. Bret, ever the thinker, comes up with unique ways to hit his offense and I appreciated that a lot. I think what hurts this the most is the lame finish on the missed Banzai Drop. I mean Yoko really never main evented again. Just let Bret put him in the Sharpshooter and really climax this bad boy. I thought this was a very entertaining WrestleMania Main event and is way too unheralded. ***1/2

I watched this in full as well but didn't think too much of it. It was mostly punch-kick, and even if it was decent punch-kick with Bret's stompy punches and Yoko cutting him off, I was probably more interested in Piper taking no shit from anybody. That headbutt spot did kind of rule, though. Last few minutes picked up as well and a couple of those nearfalls gave the crowd a kick up the arse. I had no recollection of how they actually ended this and that finish was...something. Was Yoko chasing Piper supposed to suggest he had something to do with it? Or did they just run the straight banana peel finish? Either way the post-match was a cool moment. Even as a kid I could never quite get behind Bret, but I sure liked him more than Yoko and I had no real interest in Luger either. Seven year old me would've had Savage in the main event but nobody ever did listed to me.

I thought the match was understandably average, but the post match stuff is well worth going out your way to see. Watching that guy in the crowd desperately trying to get Owen to join his brother shows how much the audience were into the Bret vs Owen storyline. The top moments of the actual match were them doing the Samoan headbutt spot and Bret getting some very convincing nearfalls before finally winning the match.
