This was pretty fun. It's more theatrical than typical Finlay, which I enjoyed. Nice mixture of matwork, comedy and stiff shots, and a nice progression from round to round as they build the heat. I still don't completely understand British wrestling, but I found this enjoyable.

INteresting match up and really a lot of mixture of styles within the match. I thought the match was really good and especially liked Doink doing his heel bit but it went on too long and the finish was too abrupt from Finlay being in the sleeper to hitting the tombstone.

Is this Matt Borne? I sure hope so. Oh, the post tags say yes. These two do a good job of not letting the rounds break the momentum too much, as the psychology carries through each round rather than them doing a hard reset each time. Both guys work heel but the crowd tends to be on Doink's side, so in a way this is a teaser of what Borne could have done as a babyface Doink in an ideal world. The turn was a horrible idea, but the concept of Doink still wrestling with an edge has some appeal to me. Match went too long for such an abrupt finish, but still good and evidence that Borne still had something to offer in the ring.

AstroBoy's Secret Santo pick features Finlay defending his CWA Intercontinental Championship against the Sammy Hagar of Doinks on the final day of the annual Euro Catch Festival in Bremen. And the commentary is in Welsh, which might as well be Klingon as far as my ears are concerned.

These two stick to the mat in the first round. Seeing the Belfast Bruiser and a clown have a straight wrestling match is quite a sight. It kind of reminds me of that Pirata Morgan/Brazo de Oro title match. It was a bit disconcerting after Finlay's pre-match promo promising to lay waste to "this WWF clown," though. That doesn't last long, as Finlay Pearl Harbors Doink as he makes his way back to his corner after the bell. He then tries to take advantage at the beginning of the second round, but Doink greets him with a cup of water to the face and gives him a taste of his own medicine, eventually catapulting him out of the ring. Things settle down once Finlay makes it back in, and a Greco-Roman knuckle lock takes up most of the rest of the round.

Evidently nothing of note happened in rounds 3 through 6, as the footage cuts straight to the seventh round. Doink spends the round beating Finlay from pillar to post. He rams him head-first into the turnbuckle, rakes his eyes on the ring ropes, and slams his head into a table. He even subjects Finlay to his own sternum-first apron slam spot. Doink further enrages the burghers by throwing water at them, leading to a lady in the crowd flipping him the bird. The eighth round begins with Doink continuing on the attack. He applies a sleeper only for Finlay to counter with a jawbreaker followed by a tombstone for a rather abrupt win. No doubt about it, this was a happening.

Doink is Steve Keirn here.

Jason Cross has been pretty adamant that this was Ray Apollo, according to Ray himself speaking casually in a dressing room in front of a group of respected European veterans. I have no reason to disbelieve Jason and there are no serious hallmarks of Keirn's work within the match. Sort of odd to consider Ray taking two weeks off working for Vince to go to Germany during the holidays, but not out of the question I suppose. There's is a bit of an interesting conflicting date (or confirmation depending on your view) earlier in the year on 9/10/94 where the WWF Doink is working Munich and the CWA Doink is in Hanover (a 4 hour train ride). I tend to think this confirms it was Ray, who had a history of working Germany back in 1991. Keirn seems to be finishing up by this stage in his life and I just don't see him taking bookings in Europe when he hardly ever left Florida in the first place. Any thoughts here?
