Even though this match was one of the shorter matches in this style so far, it seemed to drag at times. There were moments I liked, like Scott's really fired up, aggressive bursts of knees and palm strikes on Yamazaki, but moments like that were too rare. Scott's half crab where he walked his way back to the middle of the ring was way too Walls of Jericho for my tastes. This disappointed me.

Yeah, that half crab spot was...well, I put almost all of it on Yamazaki. He gets dropped on his head with a German suplex and then half-crabbed and he sells it like a resthold. Still, I liked a lot of the rest of this, and I liked Scott to the point where it almost seemed like a carry-job, as aside from a few big kicks and two suplexes Yamazaki seemed like he was along for the ride.

A pleasant surprise. Scott didn't appear like much of a threat initially but ended up providing a stern examination. Yamazaki was clearly impressed with his opponents performance afterwards. Good match with a fresh feel to it.

This one started slow but picked up toward the end when both guys scored knockdowns. Yamazaki seemed flat for most of this, so him picking up the win really seemed like an upset although he was undoubtedly the favorite coming in.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of Scott as he definitely showed he could hang with one of the top shoot-style grapplers around. This didn't seem like a classic to me, but it wasn't too bad either.

This was a very pleasant surprise-particularly in the level of *wrestling* displayed. Some of the takedowns were just unreal-particularly Yamazaki's twisting one and the one where Scott transitioned into a Stepover Toehold. The "resthold" complaints are silly-they were working nearfalls with the whole crowd chanting for the wrestler in the hol , but I guess I'm going to have a different perspective when I'm watchng *everything* vs. people who watched whatever made the yearbook. What would be proper selling of a Half Crab anyway? Crying and waving your hands manically? This isn't exactly Shawn Michaels vs Hulk Hogan. The stand up portions were as badass as you'd hope from a Yamazaki match and the standing choke made for a sweet finish too, especially with there being a threat of a takedown that they'd established with Scott doing so much cool amateur wrestling stuff. ***1/2

I did like how they went from Scott not really being a threat early to his back suplex really changing the tone. Yamazaki didn't seem like he looked at Scott as much of a threat early and was willing to go to the ground without much attempt at striking, seemed like he had written Scott off. Then after he recovered from the couple of suplexes and "near falls" he turned it on enough for the win.

This was short and semi-sweet. Scott looks like such a dope with his mullet and singlet but when he comes out hot and heavy with the palm thrusts and knees, he becomes more of an asskicker dope. I thought there was good struggle on the mat, even though Yamazaki looked like he was going through the motions at times, and I liked Scott's out-of-nowhere backdrop into the elevated single leg crab. Yamazaki adds a little spicy mustard to his kicks toward the end, and Scott trying to build momentum to the German was cool, only to get German suplexed in turn and choked out with the front guillotine.
