I'm sure there are other things I should check out. Maybe they didn't make the yearbook, or maybe you thought I was way off on the match and think I need to give it another look. Whatever they are, feel free to list them here.

Off the top of my head, The 8/18 JGP FINAL Show was a pretty big oversight

(AJW Title) Takako Inoue © vs Mariko Yoshida

(JGP) Toshiyo Yamada vs Kyoko Inoue

(JGP Semi Finals) Aja Kong vs Bison Kimura

(JGP Finals) Kyoko Inoue vs Bison Kimura

Are all worth going out of your way to check out, the rest of the card is solid too

Fuerza Guerrera vs. Misterioso from December 8 is my favorite Fuerza Guerrera match. It's also a title match, and for whatever reason Fuerza's act works more for me in a title match than it does in a hateful fight like the one with Octagon, I guess because comedy fits better into a match where the guys aren't bleeding and ripping at each other. Even though it's a title match, Fuerza still blatantly cheats and he still makes an ass out of himself on multiple occasions. He does his Karate Kid pose before missing a dive, and, later, when he actually connects on an impressive dive, he immediately ruins it with his celebration. All of this is worked into a dramatic third fall, and it doesn't detract from the excitement because Misterioso is such an underdog anyway. Terrific blend of title match and Fuerza match, even with the indecisive finish.

Atlantis vs. Emilio Charles Jr. from the March 24 show is also really good. The first fall is outstanding - good matwork that seamlessly turns into rope-running and flying. The match drops off a bit from there, but it's Atlantis and Emilio, so it's still good. The finish stinks, though.

I definitely recommend Fuerza vs. Misterioso. Atlantis vs. Emilio is worth watching, too, but they have two other matches on tape just from that one Atlantis title reign.

I wrote about that Emilio Charles/Atlantis match in my latest blog entry:

Atlantis vs. Emilio Charles Jr., NWA World Middleweight Championship match, CMLL 3/22/91

This was a good title match, but not a great one. It was notable for a performance from Emilio Charles, Jr. that was pretty close to prime Charles. It wasn't one of Atlantis' better performances, however, though this was offset somewhat by him doing a lot of long term selling which fit into the narrative of his title being at risk. The first fall had some typically good Atlantis/Charles matwork as these two had a good working chemistry. I liked the way that Charles was able to outfox Atlantis, keep him at arm's distance and finally work his way towards the standing submission he wanted. Intelligent heel workers is one of the things that really endears me to lucha and title matches are obviously where they get to showcase their ability most. Unfortunately, Atlantis' comebacks in the match weren't timed as well as you'd expect. That's an issue as said comebacks are important turning points in lucha libre title matches. Charles covered for the first comeback by producing some of his classic bumping and selling, but things stalled a bit in the third caida. There were some good dives, but Atlantis actually blew the spot he was supposed to make his comeback on. Charles was able to lay into him a bit and cover for the mistake and Atlantis sold the slip like it was a result of match fatigue, but it took me out of the match a bit. And unfortunately, the finish was not so much poor conceived as poorly timed. None of this should take away from a top performance from Emilio, but it's a match that could've been a lot better.

SWS 6/10/1991 Gauntlet Tag match

The Rockers vs Power & Glory vs Randy Savage & Genichiro Tenryu vs Haku & Yoshiaki Yatsu vs Ishikawa & Great Kabuki

Rockers vs Power & Glory start out and have the best section of the match, Tenryu/Savage vs P&G is real good too, the rest of the pairings atleast have fun moments.

Ciclon Ramirez, Aguila Solitaria, and Pantera II vs. Jerry Estrada, Tony Arce, and Vulcano (June 14)

Really good trios match featuring a really good performance from Ciclon Ramirez. He has a good duel on the mat with Vulcano in the first fall, and then he spends most of the next two falls taking big bumps for the rudos. If there's a flaw in his showing, it's that he opts for an over-the-top dive at the end of the match instead of doing his usual missile.

On the rudo side, Los Destructores keep things interesting with a bunch of cool double-teams. Jerry Estrada gives a very Jerry Estrada performance. People who like him will be amused by the same stuff that annoys people who don't like him. I don't think anyone can deny that press-slamming Ramirez into Virginia Aguilera is awesome, though.
