Here we go - the segment which had approximately 850 billion viewers and is the most watched thing in the history of the world. Mankind needs to make it up to Rock that he went after him in the six-pack challenge the night before. The Rock says no apology is needed since it was every man for himself but Mankind has something big planned - This Is Your Life, Rock! Balloons fall from the ceiling. A bevy of people from Rock's past make appearances, including Mrs. Griffith, who wouldn't let him make pancakes; The Rock's football coach, who made him run sprints; and his first girlfriend (who hilariously comes out to The Narcissist's old theme music!), who cut The Rock off when he tried to get to second base.

Rock utters the phrase "poontang pie" for the first time, which makes Lawler hysterical.

Next, we get to the presents. Mick Foley has had airbrushed Rock & Sock Connection jackets made for them, which are marvelously dated. He also presents The Rock with Mr. Rocko. He tries doing some sock puppeting for The Rock, but Rock isn't impressed.

Finally, Mick brings in Yurple The Clown. She puts an "IYQ" sticker on The Rock's shirt, which cracks me up. This is when Mankind stands up for himself and thinks Rock needs to learn to be grateful. Yurple then leads everyone in the building in singing "Happy Birthday", which is a great scene.

"The Rock's birthday is May 2, you stupid son of a bitch."

"I know that, Rock. It's just that every day I get to spend a little bit of time with you feels like somebody's birthday."

Then, ultimate party pooper HHH hits the ring with his sledgehammer to put an end to all the fun.

I never want to see an attempt to copy this, but what the hell? As a one time thing with the right people involved, it was tremendous.

Yurple the Clown comes out to Doink's music. What a night for old WWF themes. This is a legendary segment no doubt but it gets worse everytime I see it. I remember they did another version of this when Rock came back which wasn't very good at all. Having said that, this was the Rock at his best. His one liners just killed.

This segment actually did a higher rating than the 1999 Superbowl. True story. The Rock and Mankind were both so great on the mic and their mismatched buddies routine was golden. Plenty of fun moments and putdowns. I spat my drink out when Mr Rocko started talking! Plus we had an ever welcome guest appearance from Yurple the Clown. IYQ Yurple. The festivities are ended when the ultimate party pooper HHH poops all over everyone.

Loss runs it down but this is a perfect one off type segment like Rock/Austin doing margaritaville together. It doesn't add much to the upcoming storylines but it felt like something different but also entertaining and for that reason it was a success. As we have seen with rehashes lately (BAYLEY), Rock and Mick being such great personalities really help move this segment along and not fail.

I have to admit, as this segment stretched past the 15-minute mark when I watched it live, I started fantasy booking one last "gift," which was Mankind playing a montage of the 1999 Rumble finish, and leaving Rock in a pool of his own blood. That would have launched this into all-time "Where were you when..." territory, at least as I see it. That said, one obviously can't judge a segment based on what you wanted it to be, only on what it is. *That* being said, even if you aren't going to launch a major angle with this segment, it needed a better ending than the total anticlimax we got, as funny as most of this was. It also says something that the bulk of this consisted of Mankind telling the actors backstage, "You'll come out and give your line, then I'll say something, then Rock'll say something, then we'll move on." Somehow even Russo knew that overscripting and overthinking was death to a wrestling promo. Maybe that was because, as the lack of real ending indicates, Russo's total lack of attention span. But it still works.
