Mitsuharu Misawa & Kenta Kobashi

Well since I nominated them, I'll just re-iterate that I think, for the two-and-a-half years they were a regular team that they were the best team I've ever seen. If you stack up the matches against Kawada/Taue's, they were routinely having the better matches. I said in the latter's thread that I'd still take Kawada/Taue for #1 because of longevity/far more great matches, but Misawa/Kobashi were everything you'd expect from two super-great babyface workers paired up.

Of course Kawada/Taue had more great matches, they had a few more years to do so. I would guess that the two things working against Misawa/Kobashi is longevity and variety of opponents in their great matches. That being said, for being together for such a short time they really clicked as a tag team. Any time they wrestled Kawada/Taue it was a great match. I would call that a feather in the cap of both teams. I'm trying to think of any team with better double teams than Misawa/Kobashi, but not really coming up with many.

Kobashi's crybaby antics aside, this was one of the best teams of all time and had a great dynamic that was hard to replicate. They had two years worth of matches against the HDA and never had dull moments, with even their "lesser" matches only seen as such because they hit the absolute peaks of tag team wrestling. I'm toying with the idea of them in my Top 5, but the problem with how they'll place is that as great as the matches were that they were in, they were only a team for over two years and there are a lot of other teams with a long history that, while not hitting the peaks this team did, had enough high points where they might get pushed out.

The big difference between Misawa's and Kawada and any Misawa team is that the first felt like a team of equals and anytime Misawa teams with someone, it ends up being the Ace and his little buddy. With that said, just a great run of all time classics.

So true! ... And while I often really like the mentor and mentee dynamic in a team, it often felt just like you said with Misawa: The Ace and his little buddy... Obviously not with Kawada though. Top 5 team for sure (but so is 6 or 7 other teams to me, so...)
