Episode 36

November 13, 1982 (WCCW 47)

The Freebirds continue to impress both the boys and the fans in 1982, but Dear God, this TV show is in a coma otherwise...

-Kabuki AGAIN in a handicap match (at least the Samoan provides some laughs with multiple botches)

-Is Destroyer #1 THE Destroyer...or is Kelly putting way too much thought into this

-THAT match between The Checkmate and Bugsy

-And, the piece de resistance, Fritz finally provides evidence of the bounty on Kerry (but something is a little fishy about the name on the check...)

World Cast: We watch this dreck so you don't have to

Episode 37

November 20, 1982 (WCCW 48)

As the clock ticks down closer and closer to Christmas Star Wars, with Kerry Von Erich finally getting a rematch with Ric Flair for the NWA title, the territory offers up a typical mixed bag. At least each segment improved on the last ...

-Bugsy and Good Ol' Al vs The Checkmate/ Bill Irwin...eh
-David vs Destroyer #2...work on that finisher, David
-Freebirds vs Kabuki/Dragon...getting better
-BUNDY BARES ALL...Hilarious exposé
-Kerry vs Killer Tim Brooks...Fun, gritty little match

World Cast: We haven't thrown in the towel yet!

-Tim Brooks is a crazy, hobo drifter and we love it

-David vs Kabuki in a kick ass main event

December 4, 1982 (WCCW 50)

The boys look at a, shall we say, unique episode of WCCW this week, including...

-The Spoiler back in town! But whose side is he on?

-Roberto Renesto back in town....*crickets*

-MIDGETS!!!!!!

-Wait for it...A Von Erich family duck hunting trip!

-Good Ol' Al taking to the skies!

-King Kong Bundy introducing Devastation Inc.!

-....and, to ruin the buzz, a turd of a main event :(

World Cast: Brian Adidas sucks

I wonder if the duck hunting stuff would fly better today with all the "Duck Dynasty" fans around. I enjoyed all the stuff with the midgets this week. I wonder if WWE's next big Network event could be a big midget wrestling tournament.

Episode 40

December 11, 1982 (WCCW 51)

As the pieces continue to fall into place for Star Wars on Christmas night, the boys ruminate on various topics...

-Goodbye Jay Saldi, we hardly knew ye

-The Spoiler vs Jose Lothario: almost a good match

-Just give 'em what the fans want: Manning, Manning, Manning

-Flair and Fritz go Face to Face

-King Kong Bundy is 90% classic King Kong Bundy in December, 1982

- The boys also share their memories of the recently departed Mr. Saito

Good episode. I think if they are cutting out adverts for upcoming house shows, I wish they would keep those in to help give a sense of what was going on in the company at the time and what sorts of matches were they expecting to draw in the local markets. I am pretty sure that in the 80's Crocket stuff they cut out the parts where Tony Schiavone runs down the dates and locations for all the upcoming house shows and what stars or matches were being promoted for those shows as I am sure I remember seeing that when I watched those Crockett TV shows before.

You know, the Saito-Inoki Island Death Match might be a good unofficial Mystery Titans Theater episode. Its a bit of a slog to expect people to sit through on their own right now due to it's length and long periods of little to no action, but if we could hear you guys talk about the match and about Inoki and Saito in general, it may make it more worthwhile to sit through. That one may need to go on Daily Motion or be audio only though as I believe New Japan are big on taking stuff down off Youtube.

World Cast Whoops (aka, the non-watch along watch along)

https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-whoops-aka-the-non-watch-along-watch-along/s-ZqfbT

December 18, 1982 (WCCW 52)

Kelly and Johnny thought they would revisit an old concept and do a watch along of this episode (Pete conveniently "forgot" about the recording date) but they were burned by free Skype recording software...a frustratingly common problem the last few months grrrr. Anyway, instead of saying "fuck, we can't release this episode because, you know, you can't actually really watch along at home because the audio doesn't sync up properly" Kelly wove some editing magic and here you go, lucky listener, a somewhat listenable episode full of bitching about the dull WCCW undercard and other random musings.

.....but next week is a double sized look at motherfuckin' Christmas Star Wars!!!!

Episode 41

https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-41-christmas-night-1982

December 25, 1982 (WCCW 53 and 54)

It's finally here!!! What everyone has been waiting all of 1982 for...the big 18-man $10,000 battle royal pole match! No? OK, how about the finals of the World Six-Man tag team tournament? OK, OK, right...of course...IT'S FINALLY CHRISTMAS NIGHT, 1982 AND KERRY VS FLAIR IS IN A CAGE AND MICHAEL HAYES IS BEING A BIT TOO AGGRESSIVE AS REFEREE....

The boys celebrate one of the biggest nights in the history of any territory ever. The moment a spark was lit that would become a raging fire in 1983. What made sitting through Gene Goodson, Tom "Boogaloo" Shaft, The Superfly, Jay Saldi, Armand Hussian, Brian Adidas, endless draws and double countouts, and that horrible Great Kabuki music video all worth it. Von Erich's vs Freebirds has begun!

World Cast: We just watched all of 1982 WCCW on the Network. What have you done?

Episode 42

January 15, 1983 (WCCW 55)

The boys pop the cork on some champagne and welcome in 1983. There is a noticeable buzz in the air in the Sportatorium following the big angle on Christmas night, Andre the Giant is in the house, bad Network dub jobs reach their apex, Bill Mercer gets worse and worse, and we still have our usual time limit draws and weird gimmick battle royals. Happy New Year!!!

World Cast: 1 year down, 6 (7?) to go

-Kerry Von Erich vs Harley Race NWA title

-Kevin/David Von Erich vs Hercules Ayala/Ali Mustafa World Tag Team Trophy

Also on the show:

-The greatest announcer in Dallas history: Jack (?)

-Another masterful performance by NWA kingpin Race

-How many tag team titles is too many tag team titles?

-Another crummy battle royal

Episode 43

https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-43

January 22, 1983 (WCCW 56)

This show was really all over the place, featuring...

-A nice surprise, one last X-mas gift from Star Wars, a good match between Bundy and Kevin for the American title
-An all-time amazing trainwreck in the form of Kerry in a swank fur coat narrating footage of the Star Wars cage match
-A reminder of how great Terry Gordy was
-David Manning given too much mic time, again
-"Devastation Inc.": One man? A stable? The mystery continues

World Cast: God's favorite pod!

Episode 44

https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-44

January 29, 1983 (WCCW 57)

1982 feels more and more like a distant memory as the boys review a fairly exciting episode of WCCW. Among the highlights...

-The Great Yatsu debuts and he's awesome (despite being saddled with Armand Hussein)

-Hayes and Lothario rip it up in the best time limit draw ever (OK, slight exaggeration)

-Bundy and Mercer: Underrated comedy duo

-Farewell to Bugsy and Good Ol' Al, maybe

-Also, who was the best heel in wrestling in 1983?

World Cast: Now in 4th place and only 8 games out

Episode 45

https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-45

February 5, 1983 (WCCW 58)

The Freebirds are takin' ovah!

NWO, eat your heart out, the 'Birds have a ton of gold and are running the Sportatorium by the end of the show. Things are not looking good for our heroes, that's for sure!

Also on this episode...

-The Great Yatsu continues to impress, and perhaps inspires Brian Adias to start looking for a new territory in the process

-More change in Dallas, as THE Checkmate departs (unfortunately after a mess of a match with David)

-Lunch with the Freebirds

-A hot main event between Kevin and Terry Gordy for the American title

Episode 46

https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-46-a-quick-one

February 12, 1983 (WCCW 59)

All that remains from this episode appears to be Ric Flair vs Terry Gordy for the NWA title. That's good enough for the boys though, since who needs more Armand Hussein, amirite? So sit back and listen to a review of a match not found on the Network. Here's the YouTube link https://youtu.be/Hg7t_PDyYcU

That's all for this week, because Skype and recording technology were being difficult. Next week we promise an exciting review of a show featuring the debuts of Iceman Parsons, Jimmy Garvin and General Akbar!

Episode 47

https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-47

February 26, 1983 (WCCW 61)

With episode 60 seemingly lost to time, the boys march on to episode 61, and oh boy is it a big one!

We get not one, not two, but THREE massive, game changing debuts, folks:

-Iceman Parsons: He's cool as hell and Armand Hussein doesn't stand a chance

-Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin and Sunshine: He doesn't want to be filmed but she likes to film people (and was she hanging around the Spectrum in 1979 by chance?)

-"The Man", General Akbar: Devastation Inc. now has a leader and he's dangerous

Plus we get a little match, just THE FREEBIRDS VS THE VON ERICH'S FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER as our main event. Yeah, this ain't 1982 anymore
