WWE Backlash 2018

Surprisingly stacked card. I thought they would ease up on things after WM, but this seems to be a banger:

  • Bayley vs Ruby Riot w/Morgan & Logan (did they hype this one up at all?)
  • AJ Styles vs Nakamura
  • Seth Rollins vs The Miz
  • Jeff Hardy vs Randy Orton
  • Nia Jax vs Alexa Bliss
  • Carmella vs Charlotte
  • Daniel Bryan vs Big Cass
  • Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe
  • Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley vs Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens.

The only thing missing here is a SD tag team match, but they are going to do that next PPV for sure.

Well given the history of Smackdown in the last 2 or 3 years, we have maybe another 2 or 3 months of it.

It really depends to me on how long they are going to wait on Miz vs Daniel Bryan. If they can, I will put title on Nakamura and build toward Bryan and Nak at Summerslam. Of course the other problem is that I am fully expecting Big Cass to beat Bryan tonight

Predictions:

Ruby over Bayley

AJ over Nak

Rollins over Miz

Hardy over Orton

Carmella over Charlotte

Nia over Alexa

Cass over Bryan

KO/Zayn over Braun/Lashley

Reigns over Joe

People will complain if Bryan loses, but the thing is he's bulletproof. Reigns is proof that beating Bryan is actually worse for one's career than losing to him. Cass is perfect because he's a big, tall guy who's supposed to be a heel so he'll get booed by every type of fan. So in this case, it's better to have a guy everyone hates beat him than risking a fan favorite receive insane backlash. Roman winning will be hilariously bad for tons of reasons not to mention it will severely hurt Joe. The booking of Reigns as a fake top guy who's actually a loser when it matters is so bad I can hardly watch RAW. Having him likely beat a hot act like Joe when he's a total jobber to Brock is just mind bogglingly terrible. I want to point out I'm a huge Roman Reigns fan, but there's no good way to book him at this point outside letting him take 6 months off.

Hopefully this is it for Styles and Nakamura.

I like both guys but their feud just hasn't worked.

I know Greatest Royal Rumble was really just a house show but having these back to back and that 7 hour Mania just has me feeling burnt out on WWE.

Same here. I'll watch the beginning but I'll be switching to hockey if the show gets bad.

I will probably see if anything is good and cherry pick it tomorrow after work. The show seems mostly filler minus a couple of matches.

Yeah but it's Big Cass. You just brought Bryan back and he should only be losing in a feud that matters. Big Cass isn't over and will never be over. You're already wasting people's time with that match, why piss them off by having Cass win?

Because it's Daniel Bryan & beating Daniel Bryan is guaranteed heat (good or bad). WWE sees that as a positive regardless if we think that's a good thing or not. And to my original point, Bryan will always be over. He can afford to lose 100 matches straight to the Big Cass & Jinders of the world. Big Cass really can't afford to lose. It's better to give him a big win & see if anything sticks than just have Bryan slay him & move on.

I disagree with that. That's the kind of move where fans go "fuck this shit, why did I waste my money on it" kind of heat. Yes, Daniel Bryan is bullet proof to a degree but you have to be very careful about how you job him because you risk pissing people off in the wrong way.

I don’t disagree with this line of reasoning for the prediction but it doesn’t feel to me like they’re beating Bryan here, especially after he wasn’t on TV this week and has gotten no heat on Cass to this point. I think all roads lead to Bryan/Miz at Summerslam and this is just a stepping stone on the way for Bryan.

I would expect Cass is winning but if Bryan keeps losing or even just trading wins and isn't in main events by the end of the year I could definitely see the people turning again. For round three.

So there's a grace period going on here but it has a limit

I just don't understand this logic. No one wants to see Daniel Bryan lose to Big Cass. This is the kind of thing that if it was suggested to me in creative I would fire that person for gross incompetence. Big Cass is the kind of guy that should never be considered for a win over Daniel Bryan.

I'm not even a big DB guy but if I paid money for a ticket and saw him lose this match I probably wouldn't go back to a show for a really long time. It's just stupid and it's shit like that, that makes me fucking hate their current product.

Nakamura has been a crippling disappointment since his NXT debut against Sami Zayn. I'd say this is probably his last chance to prove he can have a really good match, but who am I kidding? He'll probably win the World Title tonight, regardless.

I don't see Big Cass winning. I think this sets up Miz somehow.
