[2018-05-06-WWE-Backlash] Seth Rollins vs The Miz

A very good, fun, energetic match aka the perfect way to kick off a show! The Miz was good in his control segments, Rollins was very good with those comebacks, the knee psychology was awesome, the two Scull Crushing Finale nearfalls were legitimately amazing, as were the sequences leading to them, full of struggle & desperation. And talking about sequences, that finishing sequence was absolutely fantastic. The Miz & Seth Rollins are 2 guys who I don't think much of in singles action, but gotta give it to them big time here, what a banger of a match! ***3/4

Wasn't expecting this to be as exceptional as it was. Miz has grown into a great heel worker. No BS big spot spamming here. I loved that the leg work actually went some where and it affected every move Rollins went for after he connected with ring post after a failed Revolution Knee attempt. Every finisher attempt felt like it mattered and could end the match. The best non-NXT WWE match so far this year.

Shame the show went right down the shitter after this, eh?

Great match. Seth has really come into his own as a babyface and the MIz was the same opportunistic heel he's always been. Seth has gotten a lot better with knowing how to escalate his offense and not do stuff just for the sake of it. Miz also knew when to pick his spots and re-take control of the match. The knee work at the end really added an interesting wrinkle to an already great match and there were quite a few times Miz believably looked like he would pull it off. I just really don't like that superplex/falcon arrow spot, even if it gave us an awesome nearfall from Miz.

Excellent match and showing from both guys. ****1/2

This was actually incredible. That knee into the post into the F4LL had the crowd going insane and it was just some basic, old-school stuff. Seth toned down his indierrific moves in this match, although sometimes he kinda no sold the damage, nearly jumping up to the superplex and all that.

However, all things considered, he's improved substantially from what he was during 2016/17.

Miz was great, as is his usual form. At this point, he might be the best wrestler on the planet when it comes to creating credible nearfall situations. He's made Ziggler relevant for his feud and made all the matches be nail-biting affairs. No surprise this was good as it is, as those two have had incredible matches beforehand, and with Finn Balor thrown into the mix as well.

Absolutely agree that this was the main roster MOTY for the WWE. Just a simply worked match that built to a big moment (the knee into the post) that informed everything that happened afterwards. Gotta applaud Miz for his heel work in this match. His facial reactions to Rollins powering through the Figure Four Leg Lock are just golden. Then you have Rollins putting in one of his best babyface performances ever with the knee selling. Those little moments of hesitation that facilitated Miz getting back the advantage are Bryan-levels of excellent. You've got an absolutely wonderful Intercontinental Championship match here and the best thing on the main roster all year.

****1/2
