It's interesting to watch Big Leon White start to figure out who he is and come into his own. It's like he's getting a sense of just how big and powerful he really is.

There's just endless potential for putting together main event tag matches on your roster. Ricky Steamboat & Ron Garvin vs. Ken Patera & Jerry Blackwell is a really good one. Some rugged, manly pro wrestling going on there.

Roberts and Nord against the Bullies would have been a fun match. Steel vs. the Guerreros was probably my workrate match of the night. Burke getting a payback win on Pillman is nice. Dundee and Douglas vs. Playboy after Dark could be a really fun feud. White with a huge win over the Pit. Black Irish and the Can Ams is a really fun match-up. Steamboat has shown he can beat a variety of opponents, here taking out strongman Patera.

Death Sentence is really moving up the ranks. Good to see Jake bounce back (after his losses to Piper) and get a strong win with the DDT. You have a nice little gem of a feud going between Pillman and Burke. Saito scores the pin on Diamond. Wow, I would love to see Saito and Bock have a program with the champs. Zenk gets a deserved shot at Tanaka and takes him to the limit. Looking forward to some rematches. What a great main event with Steamboat pulling off the quick pin. I know the fans were into that match.

I went back to May and my oh my Steamboat is rolling right now. He is one of the tops in the world and to go along with that you've got Bigelow coming up and Spivey isn't far behind. Then you've got Piper and Roberts around to shake things up. I think this is a case now more than ever that Piper and Jake don't need a title to be relevant.

AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for June 6th

The Great Kabuki vs. Masa Saito

Last week, Kabuki got the better of Larry Zbyszko in their match together. This time out, Zbyszko, still clad in his karate gi, was a constant presence at ringside for his partner’s match with Saito. He proceeded to take an interest in Sunshine throughout the match, which proved to be a distraction for Kabuki, something he definitely didn’t need in dealing with a tough competitor like Saito. It got to the point where Kabuki went outside the ring to intercede, but when Larry started jawing with him, this just gave Saito the opportunity to sneak up on him and hit the Saito Suplex on the outside. This led to Saito getting the win by countout. The sinister pair then continued to menace Sunshine, who pulled out her nunchaku to defend herself, but the Razor Boys came out to rescue their manager and stable mate.

Leon White vs. Doug Somers

The conflict between the Cobra Corps and Playboy After Dark has escalated of late, and both factions were at ringside as the powerful rookie White faced off against the veteran Somers. Somers seemed to take delight in taunting White while dodging out of the way of his blows, taking advantage of his own ring savvy and scouting out White’s moves before he made them. The strong but awkward White kept trying to challenge Somers, but Somers kept slipping out of his grasp as he tormented him. Somers ended up going to the well once to often as he stopped to jeer at Sgt. Slaughter and Too Cold Scorpio over how he was making a fool of their comrade, only for White to grab him by his peroxide blonde hair and pull him into a huge right fist that put him crosseyed. White followed with a wild, flailing spinning backfist that leveled Somers before finishing him off with a crushing power slam. Sarge and Scorpio enthusiastically congratulated their partner on his impressive win, but White didn’t seem to be paying them any mind.

Death Sentence vs. Joel Klug & Dirk Been

As they came out, Kevin Sullivan declared to the camera that he was tired of playing around, that the Varsity Club were dead and that from now on, the AWA would have to deal with the Neighborhood Of Evil. Klug and Been clearly regretted stepping foot in the Neighborhood as Gaylord and Payne mangled them through out the match , hitting both men with the Execution before Payne force Klug to the Payne Killer while Gaylord trapped Been in a Hangman. Sullivan and his men were clearly satisfied with themselves, but that didn’t last long as the Sheepherders, of all people, charged into the ring and attacked them. Butch and Luke clearly weren’t there to save Been and Klug, as they hurled the youngsters out of the ring before continuing to do battle with Death Sentence until the AWA officials cleared them out of the ring. What exactly are the Sheepherders up to?

AWA Canadian Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. David Taylor

Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie let it be known last week (shortly before kicking Chris Adams out of the Sinister Syndicate) that he was determined to bring the Canadian Title into the Syndicate’s hands , and didn’t care which member took it. To that end, he has sent one half of the British Bullies, “Squire” David Taylor, out to challenge Ron Garvin, but still had Taylor’s partner Marty Jones by his side during the match. Some incredibly hard chops and shots were thrown in the match, along with some wrenching arm and leg locks by both men, as well as various other submission moves. Taylor was trying to get Garvin set up for the double underhook suplex, but Garvin was able to block it, then reverse it into a backslide to get the one two three. Kaissie glared at Garvin after the match, but nothing more took place.

Steven Regal vs. Larry Cameron

Speaking of people gunning for titles, British Steel are heating up their campaign to take the Southern Tag Team Titles from Black Irish. For this match, one member of each team would face off in singles action. The popular “Young Gentleman” Regal was taking on a powerful opponent in the former pro football player Cameron, who had yet to be pinned in AWA action. Cameron went full bore against Regal, looking to put a quick end to the challenge of his younger opponent. “Lethal” Larry unleashed his arsenal of mighty slams and power moves, but Regal would keep coming back. He finally whipped Regal into the ropes to polish him off with a huge clothesline, but Regal ducked under at the last second and came back with the Iron Fist Punch, followed by the Regal Roll. One … two … THREE!!!! Cameron couldn’t believe it as Regal was jubilant, celebrating possibly the most impressive win of his career.

AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Ken Patera

Spivey’s right arm was was wrapped tight in a tension bandage from the damage it had taken last week in his match with Maxx Payne, but true to his reputation as a fighting champion, was determined to honorably defend his title as he had commited. Patera, a former World as well as American champion, relentlessly went after Spivey’s arm, and the champion was clearly in considerable pain for much of the match. Despite this, Spivey kept battling back, and managed to lure Patera into the Big Dan Boot. He followed up with the Big Dan Legdrop, but before he could go for the cover, Jerry Blackwell entered the ring and attacked him, leading to the DQ. Both Patera and Blackwell battered Spivey, focusing their attention on his arm, before Mike Rotundo charged in swinging a chair and ran them off. Spivey still had the title, but at what cost?

Kabuki vs Saito! RIght on! Exactly as violent as it needed to be.

Big Leon is definitely starting to transform. Is it time? Is it time?

What's going on with the Sheepherders here?

Garvin vs Squire Dave sounded like some stiff, nasty action.

Nice to see Regal get a big win.

Big Dan is really taking a lot of punishment lately.

As a Kabuki fan I love what you are doing with him. White seems unfocused, something must be on his mind. Sullivan is transforming into devil worshipper Sullivan and that can only be a good thing. Taylor and Garvin beating each other up sounds like a lot of fun. Regal getting a singles win is definitely a big deal. You had to know that Blackwell would get involved if he was at ringside.

One of the many things that I love about my roster is that I have a bunch of guys (Garvin, Taylor, Jones, Burke, Kabuki, Saito, Adams) that have the legit toughness to throw serious leather and can be counted on to provide a trial by fire for the rookies or super stiff matches with each other.

Leon White showing some serious aggression. The Neighborhood of Evil is the perfect name for Sullivan's stable. I would pay a lot of money to watch a Death Sentence/Sheepherders match. Regal hands Cameron his first loss. I'm sure Cameron will be gunning for him in their upcoming tag match. Looks like Adnan has his sights set on Garvin. SpiveyMania continues to run wild but the injuries are mounting up.

I think many of but you are the first to us have had Kevin Sullivan at one time or another to be able to succeed long term with him. I know I found him difficult to work with but you are on a roll with him. I also am enjoying the Larry Z/Saito pairing.

And what is new in the AWA.... the Sheepherders... and where are we going.... who knows but can't wait to see

I think it's all about having the right pieces at the right time. Perhaps at the time, you didn't have the right pieces to make Kevin Sullivan work the way you wished it would work. rain was successful taking the Varsity Club approach at first, rather than using the stuff he did in Florida.

The chase finally pays off as British Steel wins the Southern titles. Great pay off! I continue to love the Burke/Pillman gem feud and like how they're trading wins. Patera and Blackwell get a huge win, taking advantage of Spivey's injury. I think Spivey's title reign is in jeopardy. Death Sentence and Sheepherders give the fans a hardcore brawl. This could turn into one bloody feud. Cool seeing Leon White morphing. Tanaka and Sano put on a clinic. Sawyer was on his A game tonight and I could imagine the selling by Steamboat. Great title defense for Steamboat as his roll continues.

Patera getting a pin on Spivey is huge. Herders vs. Death Sentence is a good feud for the young guys. Tanaka and Steamer continue to impress. British Steel finally get a title win over their rivals! Please say the feud continues.

White goes over big two nights in a row. Three Guerreros beat two of Jake's Snakepit. I wonder if this leads to anything. DeBeers hurting his arm is going to have an effect on that feud. Larry Z & Saito continue their run of good tag matches. Piper and Steamboat hooking it up in San Francisco is a big, big match.

Guerreros get a big win over Snake Pit with some help from Chavo. Hmmmmm, a Snake Pit/Guerrero feud could be very interesting. Sabu picks up a great win over Jack. Slaughter and DeBeers continue their fun feud. Nice title defense for the Razor Boys as they beat the tough team of Saito and Larry Z. I could watch Steamboat and Orton go at it all day. I wonder who Piper has in mind to challenge Steamboat? I'm really hoping this all leads to a Steamboat/Piper showdown. That match would sell out arenas everywhere.

I really like the influx of Japanese talents getting the spotlight in our territories lately. And with the addition of GAEA, I think it can only grow better. We're really doing something really cool.

And yeah, I hope we get Steamboat vs Piper soon!

Huge upset as Dundee and Douglas defeat Jake and Nord, man that's a big time win right there. The Guerreros are on quite then roll of late. This time Pillman gets the win over Burke. Tanaka is one of the best champions in the game right now. Despite being hurt, SpiveyMania beats the odds and successfully retains his title.

Pillman and Burke are having a very nice feud. Can Ams and Bullies is a very good feud if you give it a few years! Guerreros coming up aces in Ann Arbor. I bet Chavo and Scorpio put on a Hell of a show. Dundee and Douglas are becoming a well-oiled machine as a unit. Steel vs. Black Irish! Spivey continues his great run.
