Big win for Dr. D. Not many wrestlers can out brawl Stan Hansen. I give it up for Brito, he hung in there for 11 minutes against the Rougeaus. Adias's date with Karen should be interesting. Huge main event. Looks like Kernodle and OMG make quite a team as they almost take the Road Warriors to the limit.

NWA Lutte Internationale/International Wrestling TV LIVE

June 14th, 1986

Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver, BC

fwa1.jpg?v=1426605416

(A video recap from last week’s AWA vs Lutte special in Appleton, WI is shown featuring the main event between Rick Martel and Tom Zenk, among others. After this, we go to the broadcast booth where Guy Hauray and Édouard Carpentier are waiting to start this week’s show.

Guy Hauray: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to NWA Lutte Internationale TV. We’re now 2 weeks away from Heatstroke 86 and we will announce shortly some of the first matches for that date, including a special look at Lutte’s newest acquisition, Japanese star Tatsutoshi Goto. Many things to look ahead with all 3 Rougeaus in action this week.

Édouard Carpentier: And we also have the TV Championship on the line this week as Matt Borne defends against Gilles Poisson. We also hope to understand why did Matt Borne attack the Killer Bees last weekend. Word is that Jim Brunzell is furious about that and he wants his shot at Borne.

Guy Hauray: We hope to hear from Borne indeed but first, let’s welcome Jacques, Raymond & Armand, the Rougeau Brothers!

(All 3 Rougeaus come to the set with a tremendous response from the crowd.)

Guy Hauray: Alright, boys, you’re all in action this week, with Armand & Raymond facing the Fabulous Ones in the main event tonight and Jacques squaring off against One Man Gang. However, we received word from Don Kernodle that he will not attend Heatstroke in Saint-Wenceslas, QC in 2 weeks and defend the title there since he fears there will be a prejudiced bias against him and that the NWA will do anything to take the title away from him. Jacques, I’m sure you’re extremely disappointed about this.

Jacques Rougeau: Of course, I am, Guy. Whenever you can compete in your home province for a championship match, it’s a huge honor but Don Kernodle’s cowardice doesn’t seem to know any bounds and he doesn’t want to defend the Canadian International Heavyweight Championship in my home province. But you know what? If he wants me to come over in the United States, that’s fine by me. But then again, we know how Don Kernodle does when he faces real competition. Last night, he and the One Man Gang didn’t do that well against the Road Warriors, did they? In due time, I’ll get my championship back.

Guy Hauray: And as for you, Armand & Raymond, tonight, you face the Fabulous Ones in the main event. A big opportunity for you to get back in the tag title picture, whether it’s for the Samoan SWAT Team’s titles or even the Road Warriors.

Raymond Rougeau: Let’s go one step at a time here, Guy. Whenever Jacques and I wrestle together, we know we can accomplish anything. Hell, we just proved it last year when we were World Tag Team Champions. But Armand and I, we’re still getting our groove together. We’re still a work in progress. But time will show that we’ll be a strong cohesive unit. Tonight, it’s a big test for us against The Fabulous Ones and as good as they are, they’re no Rougeaus and –

(Raymond is interrupted by the trio of The Fabulous Ones and the One Man Gang, flanked by the Gang’s manager, Floyd Creatchman)

Floyd Creatchman: Are you kidding me? You really believe that you two are better than the Fabulous Ones? You gotta be dreaming here, Rougeaus. My father has always been right about you; they’re handing you everything over here. There’s no way you’re in their league. And as for you, Jacques, I promise you that the One Man Gang will do quick work out of you and the last thing you’ll ever think about is getting your title back. You’re just gonna be thinking about if you’re gonna be walking again when we’re through with you.

Jacques Rougeau: You know, Floyd, you’re just as much a weasel as your father is. But I bet you’re as fun to smack around as your old man.

(A little bit of shoving around takes place between all 6-men and the Fabulous Ones start getting on Armand Rougeau’s nerves, as Stan Lane slaps Armand in the face! Lane is proud of what he just did but Armand responds in a way that he didn’t anticipate: a right hand to Lane’s face! All hell breaks loose on the set as all 6-men brawl as Floyd Creatchman ducks for cover behind Édouard Carpentier when Jacques, despite having his hands full with One Man Gang, tries to grab him. Eventually, officials and a few wrestlers from the locker room separate all 6 men and they’re forced to return backstage.)

Guy Hauray: An explosive start to the show and if it’s any indication, we’re in for a fantastic show tonight!

Édouard Carpentier: Once again, Armand Rougeau showing poise when the opposition thinks he’s gonna allow himself to be pushed around. Armand is gaining more confidence inside the ring and outside the ring and it can only be beneficial for him and Raymond working as a tag team.

Guy Hauray: Speaking of tag team, this is what will get us started this week so let’s get to the action!

Match #1

Tony St. Clair & Sweet Brown Sugar beat The Rock N’ Roll RPMs in 9:14 after St. Clair made Mike Davis submit

Match #2

The One Man Gang (w/Floyd Creatchman) beat Jacques Rougeau in 3:51 after a decoy Don Kernodle showed up, back turned to the ring, to distract Jacques. Gang hit the Avalanche in the corner and then a running splash to secure the win. The decoy Kernodle disappeared as soon as the match ended...One Man Gang and Floyd Creatchman decide to stick around at the broadcast booth for the next match....

Match #3

Pirata Morgan beat NWA Canadian International Tag Team Champion Kokina Maximus (w/Paul E. Dangerously) in 15:57 when a brawl outside between Paul E and Floyd Creatchman distracted Kokina long enough for One Man Gang to nail Kokina with his chain. Gang dragged Morgan on Kokina allowing Morgan to score a huge upset victory! The Gang and Floyd were then escorted out of the building by security.

(Before the next match, a video package of Tatsutoshi Goto plays with some highlights from some of his best matches in Japan.)

Guy Hauray: As you could see in this video package, Tatsutoshi Goto is one dangerous man and he’s coming to Lutte Internationale in an attempt to continue where one of his countrymates, former Canadian International TV Champion Super Strong Machine did. Goto will debut at Heatstroke 86 in 2 weeks as he’ll wrestle Gino Brito.

Édouard Carpentier: Brito is a former 2-time TV Champion himself but I’m not sure he ever faced a test like the one Goto will give him. This will not be easy.

Guy Hauray: Tune in next week because we will announce the name of another newcomer to Lutte Internationale from the land of the Rising Sun who will also debut at Heatstroke!

Match #4

NWA Canadian International TV Championship

“Maniac” Matt Borne beat Gilles “The Fish” Poisson in 23:45 to retain. After the match, Borne goes to the broadcast booth for an interview.

Édouard Carpentier: Matt Borne, congratulations on another successful TV title defense but we’d like to have some explanations on what went down last Sunday when you attacked B. Brian Blair after the Killer Bees tag team match. But first, let’s take a look.

(Footage is shown of the Killer Bees celebrating their victory on Sunday night when Matt Borne, wearing half of a Killer Bee mask, assaulted B. Brian Blair with his title belt before being chased off by Jim Brunzell. Back live, Borne is seemingly as amused as he was on Sunday night.)

Matt Borne: Life can be funny sometimes, sir.....We spent most of our lives hiding behind a mask so we can camouflage our sincere feelings, our deepest insecurities and our true natures. But the day comes in every man’s life when he’s gotta face himself in the mirror and come to the realization that he’s not the man he thinks he is. You see...what I wanted to demonstrate to the Killer Bees is exactly that. Those men are dastardly. They’re not the goody two-shoes they always pretended to be. They’ve hidden behind masks so many times to achieve whatever they were intending to do but no one dared to put a stop to it until I did. I just gave The Killer Bees a taste of their own medicine.

Édouard Carpentier: You mock the Killer Bees of being goody two-shoes and you did exactly the same thing you’re accusing them of? What’s the logic in that?

Matt Borne: Mr. Carpentier, the difference between myself and the Killer Bees is that I’m not a goody two-shoes. (Borne retrieves the same half Killer Bee mask he wore last Sunday and puts it on his face). I’m Matt Borne. I’m a maniac, yes, but I never blatantly lied to anyone. I’ve never claimed to be someone or something that I’m not. I’m not a role model nor would I ever be one. But now, Jim Brunzell is looking to avenge his partner and wants a shot at my TV Championship. So, you decided to grow a spine, Brunzell? I’m not so sure but if you do before Heatstroke in 2 weeks, I’ll gladly oblige and expose you to the entire world. In order to be a champion, you have to expose yourself to the fact that you are flawed as a person. That on any given day, this is gonna end. But I’ve always made the most of it and I’m not gonna change that. Jim Brunzell, after Heatstroke, I will give you a perfectly good reason to hide behind that mask of yours...

(Matt Borne walks away, laughing.)

Édouard Carpentier: I don’t think we’ve ever had a darker mind in this territory than Matt Borne. This man is one perversely sick individual and I don’t know if Jim Brunzell is doing the good move by challenging Borne to a TV title match.

Guy Hauray: We’ll see in due time and we should have an answer from Jim Brunzell pretty soon. We’re now getting ready for some more action.

Match #5

NWA World Light Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit beat Al Madril in 7:53 with a diving headbutt. During the match, the broadcast team informs the viewers that Benoit will wrestle his last match in Lutte Internationale at Heatstroke against Gilles “the Fish” Poisson. Benoit will then fulfill the rest of his commitments in North America before flying over to Japan, where he’s seeking to continue his wrestling career

Guy Hauray: Before our next match, if you’ve joined us last week, you know that Lutte’s newest members Brian Adias and Sunny War Cloud have been at it inside and outside the ring and Adias is even going after Sunny’s latest love interest. He asked her out on a date but he first had to beat The Iron Sheik last night....

Édouard Carpentier: ...which he did, thanks to some accidental interference from Sunny War Cloud and as a result, Adias got his date. And it actually happened earlier today, as I understand it. I think we got some footage.

(We see footage from earlier today as Brian Adias and Karen are at their “date”; a hot dog stand. Adias seems to have a good time, but the same cannot be said for Karen...)

Karen: Really, a hot dog stand? This is your idea of a date?

Brian Adias: Nah, come on, Karine, we barely met, we have to get to know each other.

Karen: It’s Karen, not Karine.

Brian Adias: Yeah, yeah, yeah...Look, where I come from, there’s no need to go to fancy restaurants and anything to show ladies how to treat ‘em. Good ol’ southern charm does the trick.

Karen: Well Sunny treats me well. We go to fancy restaurants.

Brian Adias: You expect me to believe that the Indian has got enough money to afford fancy meals with a fine girl like you? The guy’s a loser! You can do much better than that.

Karen: Sunny’s a nice man and I certainly can do better than you. I can’t believe I’ve agreed to this. I’m out...

Brian Adias: Hey, hey, hey, come back here, where you goin?

(Adias grabs Karen by the arm)

Karen: Let go of me, I’m sick of this!

Brian Adias: Oh no, babe, we’re just getting started.

Karen: I said, let me go!

(Karen slaps the taste out of Adias mouth.)

Brian Adias: Oh, you shouldn’t have done that.

???: You damn right, you shouldn’t have.

(Adias barely has time to turn around that Sunny War Cloud jumps on Adias and they start fighting in the street! Karen runs away, asking for help as Sunny sends Adias head first in the hot dog stand. Sunny takes some mustard and ketchup and just sprays it all over Adias. Police officers arrive on the scene just as Karen is able to drag Sunny away. Back to the arena.)

Édouard Carpentier: Can you believe that Adias & Sunny must actuall coexist in the match coming up next?

Guy Hauray: Well, they thought they could work as a tag team when they both debuted here and they must honor those commitments, whether they like it or not. It’s gonna be quite the test up next!

Match #6

Mark Youngblood & Gino Brito beat Brian Adias & Sunny War Cloud when Brito made Sunny submit to the Figure Four Leglock. Towards the end of the match, Adias and Sunny got into an argument and Adias suckerpunched Sunny. Adding insult to injury, Adias even tore up Sunny’s headdress as he walked to the back!

(Back from a commercial break, Guy Hauray stands in front of the booth)

Guy Hauray: Before we go to our main event, we’re proud to see the success that Andre the Giant is having worldwide as he’s currently competing in Japan for most of the month. While he’s not here with us live this week, we’ve been fortunate enough – and so were the fans in attendance – to witness an unreleased match 2 weeks ago as Andre wrestled Chris Candido when the cameras stopped rolling. Luckily for all of you fans, we can show you this match right now so let’s go see it.

Match #7

Exclusive match taped 2 weeks ago as a dark match

Andre the Giant beat Chris Candido in 10:49 with a double underhook suplex.

Before the main event, Guy Hauray announces that next Friday in Cooksville, ON, “Maniac” Matt Borne will be defending the NWA Canadian International TV Championship against...JERRY “THE KING” LAWLER!!!

MAIN EVENT

Match #8

The Fabulous Ones beat The Rougeau Brothers in 32:40 when Stan Lane pinned Armand Rougeau. Postmatch, The Great Samu & Prince Alofa Fatu attacked both the Fabulous Ones and the Rougeau Brothers. Dual splashes by Samu on Stan Lane and Fatu on Raymond Rougeau respectively! This week’s show ends with Paul E. Dangerously posing triumphantly with the Samoan SWAT Team and the NWA Canadian International Tag Team Championship belts!

The Creatchman Family vs the Rougeaus is a perfect feud because Creatchman can keep bringing in new and different challengers. It's not dissimilar from the Heenan Family vs Hogan, in that way. Just keeps renewing itself.

That Borne promo was terrific.

I'm very much excited to have Benoit coming over to Japan.

The Creatchman Family vs any babyface in Lutte was terrific for that exact reason. Eddy could use his contacts in the business to bring in new monsters to feud with the likes of the Rougeaus, Bravos and Martels at any given time. Floyd hasn't fallen to far off the tree! :)

I am enjoying your idea of a National promotion going all the way to Vancouver but the Lutte wrestling base might not enjoy the travel. Not a negative at all but just interested in the history of a country that I should know more about .... would a Montreal based (French) promotion go over big in Vancouver?

Your use of all of our rosters makes the all of the NWA so much more popular... Thanks again

Fantastic promo by Borne. I really love his character here. The Adias/Karen date was hilarious, and topped off by Sunny throwing Adias into the Hot Dog Stand LOL. This could be a fun feud. The Kokina/OMG feud is really heating up. Kernodle is really in the head of Jacques. Cant wait until they meet one on one. Andre vs. Candido is a treat. Looks like Candido did alright against Andre. The SST end the show with a huge statement to the other tag teams. All this and Lawler is coming to town!

Well, that's how useful it is for me to have guys like the Hart Brothers, who are household names in the Prairies and in Western Canada, so I can justify covering that part of Canada. Of course, if Stampede was still around, I would stick to Eastern Canada but why stop there when I can? IRL, Lutte ran shows in Quebec and Ontario mainly, and they run a few shows in Vermont as well until they folded in 1987.

OMG resorting to trickery shows a lot of respect for Jacques. Borne is a really fascinating character and I am looking forward to where you go with him. Brian Adias had some terrible luck on that date. I'm thinking he is the heel here. :) Great main with Paul E. crashing the post-match.

St. Clair proves his skill by lasting 15 with OMG. Wayne over Lane = Nightmares/Fabs feuding? If so, Hell yes! Big win for Benoit to send him to Japan. Jacques with a solid win over Mark. Paul E. finally gets a portion of the just desserts he has coming.

OMG puts down St. Clair. Not sure St. Clair wants to be messing with OMG as he has Tiger Jeet Singh waiting for him. I like how the tag team wrestlers have been going at it one on one. This time it's Wayne over Lane. Major win for Benoit over Raymond. Hart takes the fall but the Rougeau's send the fans home happy.

-MS-1 beat Tommy Lane in 14:21

-Andre The Giant beat Rick Martel in 6:26 with a double underhook suplex. Martel still visibly suffering from Nikita Koloff's attacks, despite the fact it's been a month since the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup. Andre helped Martel back to his feet and shook his hand afterwards.

That card would of given me my money's worth. OMG is on a terror and I'm looking forward to his inevitable collision with Kokina. I have a feeling MS-1 and Tommy Lane put on an exciting match. Andre and Martel is a main event anywhere. Maybe Martel should take some time off and heal up. Looks like Benoit and Madril had a solid working match. Nice showing for Backlund. Candido is gaining a lot of experience by taking on these veterans. Big upset for Wayne as he beats Jacques. Even if the real Kernodle isn't around, he's sure making his presence known and getting in the head of Jacques. Awesome main event that looked like a lot of fun. With a win over the King, Borne has solidified himself as a top name in this game.

OMG has been such a great addition to your roster. Satanico against Danny Davis is probably workrate match of the night. Martel definitely needs some time off, but I doubt he'll take it. Kernodle has hishands full of late with both Kirchner and Jacques. Main would have been a fun match even if Borne and Lawler's styles couldn't be more opposite.

NWA Lutte Internationale/International Wrestling TV LIVE!

June 21st, 1986

CNE Coliseum, Toronto, ON

fwa1.jpgnwa.jpg

Quick and dirty recap

-The show starts with an interview at the broadcast booth with Rick Martel. Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier announce that they received a statement earlier this week made by NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nikita Koloff saying that he wants the complete elimination of Rick Martel and thus, not only his uncle Ivan Koloff will be at Heatstroke next week but Nikita specifically enlisted WWC Universal Champion Abdullah the Butcher to get the job done! Rick Martel says some people might call him insane to not take time off but this isn't in his DNA. He doesn't fear the Koloffs nor does he fear Abdullah. Martel says he will face Abdullah and beat the Koloffs at their own game. Martel says it'd be also sweet to take away the WWC Universal title from Abdullah and that's a promise he makes to his fellow Quebecers. No matter how bruised and battered he is, he wants to finish this once and for all!

-Jeff Sword beats Pirata Morgan in :33 after a flash roll-up! Postmatch, MS-1 and Pirata Morgan both attack Jeff Sword and destroy him. Los Infernales go to the broadcast booth and MS-1 reminds the viewers that he recently won a battle royal to earn a title shot. MS-1 says he's cashing that opportunity in July 6th in North Battleford, SK against Don Kernodle!

-Stan Lane of the Fabulous Ones beat NWA Canadian International Tag Team Champion The Great Samu (w/Paul E. Dangerously in a neck brace) in 10:02. The broadcast team mentions how much of a roll the Fabulous Ones have been in their recent visits to Lutte Internationale. After the match, Stan Lane heads to the broadcast booth and mentions that apparently Lutte is doing another US doubleheader during the month of July and he says the Fabulous Ones wants their shot at the gold. Stan Lane looks at Paul E and tells him that if his savages can understand English, to tell them that they're officially challenged on July 12 in Buffalo to a Canadian International Tag Team Championship. Paul E doesn't waste any time accepting the challenge! But the broadcast team wonders how much this will throw off the Samoan SWAT Team with Fatu facing Raymond Rougeau in the main event tonight while Kokina Maximus still is embroiled with One Man Gang!

-"Nightmare" Ken Wayne (w/Floyd Creatchman) beat Bob Backlund in 15:10 after the illegal switch with Danny Davis takes place allowing the small package. Floyd Creatchman seems to enjoy some great success with his revamped Creatchman Family lately and it might not fall under NWA President Bob Geigel's radar...

-Al Madril beat One Man Gang (w/Floyd Creatchman) by disqualification in 2:32 after the Gang refused to listen to referee Luigi Macera's orders in the corner. One Man Gang doesn't care and continues to work on Madril until Kokina shows up with Paul E! Kokina squash BOTH Gang and Madril in the corner and Madril collapses outside the ring. Kokina works a bit on Gang until Floyd Creatchman and the Nightmares are able to retrieve the Gang from outside the ring!

-Mark Youngblood beat Tommy Lane in 5:52

-A vignette of another Japanese star Hiro Saito is shown. Just like Tatsutoshi Goto, it's announced that Hiro Saito will be at Heatstroke in Saint-Wenceslas, QC but he will debut the night before in Rivière-du-Loup, QC against Goto's opponent at Heatstroke, Gino Brito. Saito will wrestle Brian Adias at Heatstroke.

-In his final TV appearance for Lutte Internationale, NWA World Light Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit beat NWA US Tag Team Champion Rocky Johnson in 14:11 with the Diving Headbutt. Benoit is confirmed to wrestle Gilles Poisson at Heatstroke. Both men actually cross paths after the match as Gilles Poisson comes out for his scheduled match. Benoit and Poisson exchange looks but no physicality....yet.

-Gilles "The Fish" Poisson beat Bruce Hart in 12:57 with a piledriver. After the match, Poisson goes to the broadcast booth and says that he'll make sure that he spoils Benoit's last moments in Lutte Internationale when he beats him at Heatstroke. Afterwards, then, the focus will be back on him.

-Before the main event, Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier announce that officially 3 title matches will headline Heatstroke next week: first, the NWA Canadian International TV Championship match between Matt Borne and Jim Brunzell. Then, a National Heavyweight Championship match between Jimmy Snuka and the winner of a best 2 out of 3 Falls Match the night before between Richard "Le Magnifique" Charland and Art Crews of the Agency. And finally, it's been made official that Abdullah the Butcher will put the WWC Universal Championship on the line against Rick Martel at Heatstroke. It's also announced that "Hotstuff" Eddie Gilbert will wrestle at Heatstroke as well.

-In the main event, NWA Canadian International Tag Team Champion Prince Alofa Fatu (w/Paul E. Dangerously) beat Raymond Rougeau in 15:28 with a top rope splash. After the match, Stan Lane shows up at the broadcast booth to taunt Fatu & Paul E but The Great Samu quickly shows up, along with Kokina Maximus to gain the strength-in-numbers. The show ends with Stan Lane motioning that the tag team titles will soon belong to he and Steve Keirn!
