  1. I am beginning to suspect that Tony Khan has purchased either all of ROH or a controlling interest. All of these AEW contracted talents paying their respects to ROH seems hollow. These are the same guys who went to AEW and left ROH high and dry. Which is fine because business is business. SBGI was too cheap and paid the price . However , do any of these AEW or Impact guys really give a damn about ROH ? They are just appearing because Khan needed them on Final Battle to help with the transition . AEW was never mentioned on a ROH broadcast until now. The FTR was on FB and the AEW brand was all over the show . Will the ROH relaunch be Khan taking over the company and the SBGI media platforms finally being utilized properly . SBGI can still generate revenue by merely providing broadcast outlets from ROH . Khan will take over responsibility of funding ROH and receive all of the house shows and PPV revenue . Of course Khan will get a rights fee or a piece of SBGI ad revenue. Khan needs footage in order to launch a streaming service. It would years for AEW to create enough footage to get that project off the ground. If Khan can secure the ROH , TNA/ Impact and PWG footage , he can launch a streaming service now. Khan would be in a great position if he had the AEW Turner TV shows , AEW PPVs , the AEW internet programming , ROH free broadcast TV , the restarted ROH house show business , ROH PPVs and almost 20 years of ROH footage . Of course I could be wrong about everything . Khan could be just a great guy helping poor SBGI out in their darkest hour , but I kind of doubt that . Businessmen don't make billions by being nice.
  2. Ian is getting a NJPW Strong tryout . I guess he will reteam with Kevin Kelly.
  3. Tony Khan is sending talent. Jay Lethal is taking Bandido 's spot. I would not be shocked in Daniels ,Punk and Danielson make an appearance . Perhaps in non - wrestling roles.
  4. In my case it all depends on the promotion . I always enjoy watching complete Mid- South TV shows , ROH shows from 2003 to 2010 , NJPW major shows and Smoky Mountain . Mid=South usually had talent jobbers , which made watching the entire program more enjoyable . I grew up on Memphis , but only watch comps . Memphis TV matches were mainly full of guys from Lawler's Army. However i love the TV angles and MSC matches . . I have always view ECW , World Class, AWA , Portland JCP and WCW in the comp format. I usually like comps for today's promotions . I tried AEW , but really to struggled to watch an entire show. . However I always enjoyed the the tournament gimmick . I enjoyed the TPI , Best of the Best , BOLA and the JLI .
  5. I am having total knee replacement in December. The doctor says it will take 2 to 3 months to get over the operation. I am going to watch a lot of wrestling during my time off. I have not been following the indys . What promotions should I watch . Just off you tube presence , I guess Beyond, AAW . PCW Ultra , Game Changer and Defy are the top indys in today's market. Please let me know if you any viewing suggestions. Thanks
  6. Bobby started with Nick Gulas after the split with Jarrett and Lawler . Needless to say Gulas 's promotion was devoid of talent. Bobby was a rookie but he was a prodigy . Eaton shot up the card . Nick teamed Bobby with his son , George . I think anyone one this board knows that George was one of the worst wrestlers every . However Bobby was so great at an early age he was able to carry George. Gulas bought in all three Poffo's. Randy was the heel Mid- American champion , Angelo was the masked Carpetbagger and Leaping Lanny was a baby face . Randy and Bobby worked of a program over control of the Mid- American belt . Much of Randy's top rope offense was either developed or refined working with Eaton. Bobby Eaton was the perfect opponent for Savage. To my knowledge none of the footage survived . I did watch Gulas TV program in 77 and 78 , so I saw some of the matches . Too bad Eaton and Savage never worked on a bigger stage . Bobby had a short run in Georgia. He never had got a major push in Atlanta despite having great matches. Then Bobby went to Memphis and business began to picked up . Gulas was out of business and Jarrett purchased the remains of the Gulas promotion . Bobby was now the Mid- America champion . Booby joined Jimmy Hart 's First Family . I want to correct many people who said Bobby could do mic work. Bobby talked on Memphis TV every week . Hart did 90 % of the mic work , then Booby would come in at end. Bobby did have a heavy southern accent , but he was clear and concise with his promo's Later KoKo Ware turned heel and and joined the First Family . Bobby and Koko were both super athletic and had near perfect timing . This was when Koko was in great shape , long before his " Birdman " days . They had a great run AWA Southern tag belts . Of course Jimmy and Bobby turned on Koko. So then Bobby and Koko feuded of the Mid- America title. Then Hart turned on Bobby . The end result was a bloody feud between Bobby & Koko and Jimmy Hart's Moondogs . Then Jarrett send Eaton to Bill Watts . Along with Dennis , Jimmy Cornette , Taylor and Morton & Gibson. Jarrett got Rick Rude, Jim Neidhart , Masa Ito and the Dirty white Boys. Anyway the rest is history . I wanted to share some of the great memories of this great talent that we lost today . I met Bobby Eaton at the premiere of Memphis Heat . He was a very nice man. Rest in peace Bobby Eaton . You were an outstanding wrestler and even a better person.
  7. I have some questions . McMahon keeps cuts his payroll and just giving Tony Khan talent . AEW cannot keep signing everyone the WWE lets go and keep the their current roster . Who does AEW cut ? I know Shad Khan has billions , but AEW still needs to run in the black. Also , I wonder the what the future holds for the ROH talent that help launch AEW ? You they be marginalized by influx of WWE talent ? Daniels works in the office and Trent has a serious neck injury . The others consists of Cody Rhodes . the Bucks, Frankie Kazarian , Scorpio Sky , Adam Page , Chuck Taylor and Colt Cabana . Omega is NJPW but he is part of the group that left their jobs to start AEW. I wonder if guys like Tommy End , Miro , Punk and Danielson will push some of these guys out ? Another issue is all of the new and green talent AEW is stockpiling. The new talent mainly works the work the internet show. They need to be send out to work indy shows at places like AAW and PWG . I don't see how green talent can improve working just a fews days per month .
  8. Paul had a great career . I remember when Eddie Graham sent Paul to Memphis . Jerry Jarrett gave Paul a major baby face push and he beat Lawler for the Southern belt. Then he was half of the Crockett 's NWA tag Champs with Jimmy Snuka , the North America champion in Mid-South , half of Ron Fuller's Southeastern tag champions with Norvell Austin and the National Champion in Georgia. That is one hell of a resume before New York . Rest In Power Mister Wonderful.
  9. Well contracts end and people can move on with their lifes. The WWE is not that powerful to hold people hostage after their contracts end. The WWE is not Apple or Microsoft , they are a small company in the grand scheme of things . Plus the game has changed. Sinclair Broadcasting has already sent their legal department after the WWE on at least two different times . Last time I checked ROH/ NJPW are running MSG . Also , I sure Shad Khan has some of the best legal minds available to fight the WWE . Maybe Shad Khan will make an example of the WWE if they cross him. Plus the WWE is going to have trouble signing top talent if they continue to treat talent badly . Look at how PAC was treated . Those type of bullying tactics will backfire on the WWE in this labor market
  10. I am 59 , so I was a teenage and a young adult during the territory days. Wrestling had a base of fans in small rural markets. The Memphis territory would run spots in small towns in the Mid-South . These were usually shows were the building was provided at no cost . The building owner would get the concession money , while the promotion got the ticket revenue. These shows would draw 500 to 1000 people. Medium sized markets that were culturally deprived routinely sold out . You know places like Dothan , Alabama, Knoxville , TN , Huntington , West Virginia and Gaffney , South Carolina . My family came from rural West Tennessee . They were all farmers. Almost everyone watched wrestling and they would go to Memphis or Jackson , Tennessee for big shows . The combination of local broadcast TV and spot shows build a stable core audience. In the 80's , the WWF national expansion discarded the small and medium sized markets. It all about cable TV ratings and PPV buys.Over time the existing fan base passed on and there were no more spot shows or local TV shows to keep the next generation connected to pro wrestling. I think the WWE comes to Memphis twice a year. Also talent developed because they were working 7 to 8 a week. I know Covid has bought things to a grinding halt. However even before Covid , AEW and Impact were not touring . They just produced a TV show and PPVs . AEW is signing all of that young talent and just using them on their you tube shows. When things get back to normal , AEW should run spots in small towns with there young talent. The talent gets better and the company will slowly build a larger fan base. I always believe that promotions like ROH , TNA , MLW and the latest version of the NWA should resume running spot shows , running sold shows and focusing on medium sized markets without pro sports . This builds fan support at the grass root levels. Children will attend these shows and some will become fans for life. Running Chicago and Las Vegas and selling out is great, but don't forget about Springfield and Bakersfield. I was encouraged by NXT running some smaller markets and touring before Covid. Also , ROH would run 4 to 6 times a month , which was a start . However , ROH only runs big markets . I heard a interview with Steve Keirn . When , Keirn ran FCW , he made the talent to to small towns in Florida and poster the town they were running in the near future . The talent would have to go their markets and actually hustle to build fan interest. Steve ran small gyms and rec centers in small towns. Small towns were there is not much to do. I know I have ran long on this topic . My point is that ROH , MLW , Impact , the NWA and even almighty AEW should try to run house in smaller in an effort to rebuild the business . You have to reach young kids , because the core fan base is old , like me. In today's world business world , everyone wants to hit a home run every time at bat. However will can still win with singles and doubles.
  11. I purchased the NWA PPV. I would never consider buying a WWE PPV for any price. I enjoyed the NWA matches. The main event between Aldis and Stevens was worth the price of the PPV. Just imagine , A world title match with a clean finish . Just by the amount of people commenting during the show , I sure the PPV got more than 100 buys . IMOO , the NWA will be just fine . It is a small promotion with a low overhead.
  12. I have not been paying any attention to wrestling for quite some time. Sometimes real life gets in the way. Anyway can someone wise me up to the AEW - Impact deal . Have the Khans purchased a full or minority interest in Impact ? The only thing Impact has of value is their video library . I would guess the Khans would like to purchase the TNA library so they would have product to start a streaming service. Otherwise I cannot see why AEW would even bother with Impact . Impact has been a dead brand for a long time , the only money is in the video library . Or is Khan working with Impact for another reason ? If anyone has any insight let me know. Thanks.
  13. Danny Hodge and Lou Thesz were the most athletic wrestlers I saw as a child . Both had runs in the Memphis , so I saw a lot of those two. They did not do moonsaults , but their strength , speed , mat wrestling and body coordination was off the charts. Later Koko Ware was a great athlete . In his prime Ware had the best dropkick in he business . However Ware went to the WWF and got out of shape . Sadly Ware never regain form. Later Doug Furnas and the Steiner Brothers really stood out from the pack. I will give a shout out to Nick Bockwinkle . Nick stated wrestling in the 1950's. In the 1980 's he remained in top physical condition and put on fantastic AWA title matches in his 50's. Nick was a pro , the man could have a great match with anyone.

  15. In 1975 , I was 14 years old .Like almost every teenage boy I watch Wrestling on WHBQ Channel 13. The show was always live. One Saturday Lance Russell bought out a newcomer to the territory by the name of Danny Hodge. Lance gave us Hodge's impressive resume. After that Danny Hodge crushed a whole apple with his hand . Then he proceeded to break a pair of wire pliers with his bare hands. Then we saw he wrestle and everyone knew that Hodge could beat anyone at anytime . The man was a physical marvel .I have watched wrestling since 1970 and Danny Hodge and Lou Thesz were the two greatest in ring talents that i have ever seen . I would put Jack Brisco right behind those two. However what separate Hodge from the pack was not his wrestling ability , which was second to none, it was was his superhuman like strength and athleticism .You had to see Danny Hodge live to really appreciate his amazing talents. I believe that Mister Hodge was something like 42 and 0 in NCCA matches. Hodge was never taken of his feet in NCAA competition .The man won a Silver Medal . Hodge had multiple runs a NWA JR. Champion . The man was a true legend. May he rest in power.
