  1. I was impressed with the effort from Hogan and he busted out some moves I didn't know he had in him. Way too much fuckery at the end. Maybe if I was watching more from '99 I would've enjoyed it, but dropping in alone, it was two old guys trying to brawl and be aggressive but working incredibly light.
  2. Fun little match. It's fun watching a random Kurt Angle match and seeing classic Angle spots like the running shoulder into the post and the attempted German off the apron. They tried to sell the "rookie street fighter" vs. "veteran wrestler" story a bit, which played into the ending as Cena was getting frustrated trying to put Angle away. They began to reverse each other's big moves before Angle used a Victory Roll into the Ankle Lock to get the win. Cena looked good here, you can see a superstar in the making.
  3. Sombra comes out looking sharp in a top hat. First two falls were quick, Escorpion with a sitout powerbomb and Sombra with some vicious running knees in the corner. Sombra's charisma stood out here, strutting around the ring and not really taking Escorpion very seriously. The third fall was fine, Escorpion went for some sort of underhook move but Sombra had not been weakened nearly enough. He reversed easily and hit the Shadow Driver for the pin. Didn't feel like a title match.
  4. An enjoyable match. The first fall was rudos doing rudo things, it felt like I was playing a tag match in a video game where you can keep just getting in the ring and helping your partner stay in control while the other side just stands there. The second was over in like a minute. In the third, Dorada hit this crazy dive into a hurricanrana. The finish was pretty ridiculous, Niebla took Titan's mask off, getting him DQ'd. He strutted around with the mask and...no one seemed to care. Atlantis and Dorada stood around yelling at the ref and throwing their hands in the air. Eventually, slowly, Atlantis helped Titan to the back. I'll admit, I don't know a ton about lucha, but I feel like there should have been more anger and urgency to get the mask back here.
  5. Pretty solid, but unspectacular tag match. Everyone looked good and hit their big spots. The finish went pretty much as you would expect, with AJ pinning Gedo. They worked harder here than the other tag on the card. Michael Elgin faces Styles next week for the IWGP Title and was on commentary here. He was so dull and quiet that he probably made me care less about that match. He confronted Styles after the match, and Okada stepped up as well since he gets the winner later in the month back in Japan.
  6. Not much to say with this. Well executed, but super basic house show style match. Seeing these guys live was probably a thrill, but watching back this was entirely skippable.
  7. The winner of the fall gets a title shot against Goldberg, who doesn't even make an appearance on the show. For some reason, there were three teams of 3, battling for an individual goal. The only person who appeared to have any loyalty to his "teammate" appeared to be Stevie Ray, who was aligned with Hogan. Bret Hart was a part of nWo Hollywood, but got attacked by Hogan. There was some sort of an attack on Thunder involving the nWo factions, but we were never clear on who was aligned with who. No video package before the match and the poor commentators couldn't keep track of anybody. I watched the entire show, and not one participant in the match appeared on camera to give an interview about the importance of this match or the World title. The only guys who seemed to care in the ring were DDP and Sting. Everyone else was just going through the motions. Oh yea, they also randomly announced Sting has a match against Goldberg the next night on Nitro, and openly questioned Sting's motivation tonight. Hot mess of a match that did everything it could to make you care less.
  8. I was surprised to see a decent recap of the feud prior to the match. Essentially, Saturn was fed up with despicable acts of the Flock and Raven wanted to embarrass Saturn and test how deep his integrity went. The match had some classic WCW tropes, including Kanyon getting handcuffed to the ring post not being announced prior to Raven's entrance. The spot where Kidman turned was awkward as well, I didn't even realize he was in the ring until he was dropkicking Raven and running off. The match wasn't great, but they had me biting on every near fall. Besides the main event, they probably did the best job at getting the crowd involved.
  9. The PPV kicks off with Jericho coming out to Talk with Gene Mean. Jericho has a match tonight, title vs. title against Goldberg. Okerlund needs to confirm this scoop with the champ.
  10. There are guys in the front row wearing these ridiculous looking Goldberg shirts that look ironed on. I hope this wasn't official WCW merchandise. Great comedy from Jericho. You can tell he deserved to be elevated to a higher spot. It's a shame, for WCW at least, that he had to leave the company in order to break through. I wonder how many people left the arena that night thinking they saw Chris Jericho submit Goldberg.
  11. As Bennett comes to the ring, Kevin Kelly is talking about his upcoming match with Hiroshi Tanahashi at the next ROH show. You know he's not losing here. Bennett's knee is taped up under his kneepad, which Steve Corino catches right away. It becomes a target for ACH, working Bennett's knee. Maria, looking as fine as ever, distracts ACH to help Bennett gain control. She eats a spear on the apron later and plays dead for the rest of the match. ACH followed this with a huge dive, running up and over the ropes and landing on Bennett in the extremely large ringside area. Back in the ring, ACH went to the ropes, Bennett's "knee gives out" and he falls into the ref, who hits the ropes and ACH crotches himself on the buckle. Bennett lifts him up and hits a Dominator for the win. Gutsy win for Mike Bennett who has a big match next weekend and does not look 100% leaving the ring tonight.
  12. This was the most evenly matched bout of the night. Cool spot where Day had Yamazaki in a Half Crab and Yamazaki hit Day with a heel kick to the head that just dropped him. Good grappling throughout, Yamazaki tore Day up with kicks on the feet. Yamazaki locked in an armbar that Day tapped to immediately despite him probably being able to reach the ropes if he was able to tough it out.
  13. This was wild. Kakihara is fired up during the introductions while Anjoh looks like he just woke up from a nap. Kakihara comes out strong with strikes but Anjoh works through them and gets Kakihara into a mean looking kimura. On the feet, Kakihara eats some strikes and goes down a second time. He is kicked in the face after trying a flying heel kick and is quickly down 6 points. After this, Kakihara starts to work for takedowns and submissions and begins to have some success. Anjoh may have gotton a little overconfident, as he loses the finishing instinct he had early on. Kakihara eventually seems to injure Anjoh with a kneebar, as Anjoh is slow to stand up after a rope break. Kakihara gets a second kneebar and Anjoh taps quickly. The crowd goes nuts for this and Kakihara shows a ton of charisma celebrating the upset. We get a glimpse post match of Anjoh's knee taped up under his gear.
  14. Fleming & Nakano were a lot bigger than Tamura & Miyato. Tamura had enough skill to work around the bigger men, but Miyato just got destroyed. Miyato was game and showed a ton of spirit, but he kept getting overwhelmed and would lose points. By the end, I was screaming at Tamura to not tag out. Sure enough, as soon as Miyato comes in, gets taken down and tapped to an STF. Fun match, would like to see Tamura one-on-one against Fleming.
  15. Silver is bigger than Takada, but couldn't do much with him. Silver tried a few takedowns but Takada would reverse and force a rope break. On the feet, Takada goes low, then high with kicks to cause a knockdown. Silver starts getting a little desperate, opening up with kicks. Takada grapples and forces his first takedown, in the middle of the ring, and gets the tap with a heel hook. He made it look easy.
