Newbie (1/14)

  1. Is this Bryan Danielson's earliest match on tape? An FMW PPV from 12/11/99. It would be 2 months into his career if pro wrestling wikia is to be believed.
  2. I agree with you on Naito. But what about NJPW makes you say it's been subpar? I feel like it's been on par with past years, with this NJ cup being especially strong.
  3. ZSJ and Ibushi had an incredible match. It may be my favorite match of the year so far.
  4. The anniversary show was pretty good. Enjoyed all the singles matches and the Okada main event was great as always. Really like the dynamic of Nagata being the young lion player coach.
  5. Gonna be a good week for New Japan. The anniversary show looks really good and Elgin vs Ishii should be decent.
  6. Great show with two must see 4+ star matches. I slept through the Strong v Young match and didn't care enough to give it a rewatch. Dunne vs Bate was amazing and the best WWE match this year. Bate grew his beard and got a haircut; suddenly I'm 100% behind him. It also helps that he has an amazing move set. That shooting press reversed into the triangle into the deadlift improvised powerbomb was an amazing sequence. Bate also pulled a deadlift exploder duplex that I literally popped for. The strike exchange between both of them was probably among the best I've ever seen. Dunne also had amazing moments with the release X plex on the apron and great submissions throughout the whole match, made those restholds interesting to watch. I just hope Bate is okay after taking that nasty bump at the end. Loved this match. 4.5 The women's triple threat was about what I expected if not a bit better. I was impressed with Ruby Riot, she's a great bumper and her coccyx got destroyed when she missed the drop kick from the top rope. She also sold the Asuka as really deadly the one type get locked by it. The apron spot where Nikki got Asuka with the apron was clever and the only meaningful thing she did in this match. I'm happy Asuka managed to pin both of them because Ruby or Nikki simply aren't on Asuka's level. 3.5 I'd say Roode vs Itami was Roode's best match of his reign. Itami teasing and mocking Roode came off as more natural than when Nakamura did it. Itami also did those Shibata style drop kicks on the steel steps and the ring corner which I'm a huge sucker for. I remember Roode doing a great spinebuster which looked great. I bought into the fake finishes as well and that's a plus for me. 3.75 The tag titles being hanged so low while AOP being so big took me out of the ladder match during the beginning, but that all changed when Gargano took that ladder for Ciampa. It simple spot like those that makes pro wrestling such a captivating story telling medium, I fucked loved that spot so much. It also made for a strong contrast for the end when Ciampa turned on him. The jump off the ladder through the ladders spot was unnecessary in my opinion, it just came off as really dangerous for no reason. It doesn't help that Gargano ate the floor on the way down, that looked really nasty. Either way, this match was fantastic DIY was a much better baby face team than American Alpha was back when they were in NXT. This would be WWE match of the year if it weren't for the U.K. championship match. 4.5

It's new, it's different. Orton hasn't exactly been lighting the world on fire with his reign which makes me a little more accepting of the fact that Jinder is champion. I'll give it a chance. Those awesome AJ Styles championship matches from a couple of months back seem like a distant memory now.
  8. I see lots of rumblings for Cody to get the new US belt. I'd prefer if Elgin won the belt but maybe Cody winning would be a blessing in disguise since Elgin can stay with the main NJPW roster and Cody can use his popularity to promote NJ while touring the US.
  9. You guys probably know of this resource but for any lurkers who may not know. Real Hero Archive: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/mobile/folders/0B5rK95X3mRiiSDNvTnQ0aUhWODg?usp=drive_web A massive collection of modern and old school puro, basically any Japanese promotion that has no legal way of viewing outside of Japan. Current AJPW, Big Japan, Noah, Dragon Gate, Joshi and others all here. This channel has NWA main event and world wide shows , WCW Saturday/Sunday Nights, Thunder, Sunday Night Heat, and some AJPW TV sprinkled in. Hope you all enjoy. https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCkAQ2QqsQAKaZhK6_aMexoQ If I could make a request, I'd love if someone could direct me towards a channel or any resource where I can watch 80's WWC Puerto Rico. Thanks in advance.
  10. You already mentioned Misawa and Bryan Danielson so those are covered. Kobashi's GHC reign from 2003-2005 immeidately comes to mind for me. Okada's current run with the IWGP belt is pretty up there as well.
  11. I was pleasantly surprised by the show, granted I did come into this with zero expectations. Chris Jericho vs Kevin Owens was better than their Wrestlemania match in my opinion. The pace was a little slow but I really loved the last few spots with Jericho just going nuts on the Owens' finger. 3.5. I didn't watch the Wrestlemania pre show so I can't say if this Aries vs Neville was better or worse in comparison. I can say, however, is that this was a really good match. I love heel Neville to death and I wish I could grow his beard. The intensity of both competitors from the start made a nice contrast to the slower pace of the first match. That sunset flip powerbomb into the last chancery is sick, but the finish kinda soured the match for me even if I do understand the logic behind it. 3.75. I fell asleep for the Hardys vs Cesaro/Shaemus match and I don't really have the intention of going back to watch it. Sorry. I was surprised by how good Alexa Bliss vs Bayley was. I know Bayley can go, but Alexa was having trouble getting results in terms of match quality on Smackdown. Alexa's facial expressions and mocking of the ref's counting was gold. The kick out into the post spot was pretty clever actually, and I'll always appreciate an old school DDT being used as the finish. Alexa's best match in my opinion. 3.75. House of Horrors... I don't know how I feel about this match to be completely honest. My feelings are mixed to an extent, but theres negative than positive as I would never willing see this again. That said it wasn't completely horrendous and this feud has certainly done worse ( Wrestlemania 33). House itself was certainly spooky and I liked the cinematography. The second half was hot garbage though, really hurt Bray's character. He can't even win in a match he set up without the help of 3 guys! 2 stars. Seth Rollins vs Samoa Joe was good albeit a little bland. It seems like Seth's character has been dissolved into nothing except his knee. The match itself was psychologically sound but pretty the same as the HHH match, maybe a little better. I really hated the finish too; Joe just had to let go of Seth he would of easily broken up the pin. For a 15+ year veteran, Samoa Joe really shouldn't be making those rookie mistakes. 3.25. Braun Strowman vs Roman was awesome; match of the night for me. Roman was selling everything Braun was giving him like death. The finish was really great in particular. Roman kicking out of the first powerslam ever so weakly really brought home the message of just how strong Braun really was. Braun doing 12 minutes in a main event match without getting gased or the need of rest holds shows how much he's improving. I was warming up to Braun since their match in February but I held off on actually liking the guy until he produced a great match. Needless to say, this was Braun's first great match. 4.
  12. Thanks for validating my account! My name is Nestor and I'm a 23 year old from Puerto Rico. To be honest I'm pretty much a noobie when it comes to wrestling since I got into in late 2015. None of my friends share my appreciation for it so I don't have anyone to talk to when it comes to wrestling. I only really consistently watch NJPW and the WWE pay per views. I do listen to a lot of wrestling podcasts and somehow I managed to reach the All Japan Excite Series and decided to give those matches a try. Wow. And so now here I am. Excited to absorb all the amazing matches from all these different promotions and become more knowledgable. I may not be super active since my responsibilities as a med student always keep me busy, but I'm excited to discuss with you all soon!
